Position purpose Reporting to the Manager, Academic Accommodations, the incumbent evaluates and implements appropriate academic accommodation measures in accordance with the University of Ottawa policies, administrative regulations, and procedures, in compliance with human rights legislation and academic integrity regulations. In this role, your responsibilities will include: Adhere to administrative policies, procedures, and practices related to student customer service, ensuring excellent service delivery. Perform functional assessments of students based on medical documentation to establish and implement appropriate academic accommodations. Develop and propose individualized accommodation plans summarizing the student’s learning profile and outlining concrete courses of intervention that incorporate strategies adapted to the medical condition and course requirements. Encourage and support students in communicating their accommodation needs to professors and faculty, fostering assertiveness and success. Recommend strategies and interventions that promote effective learning, including cognitive, procedural, memorisation, time‑management, problem‑solving, affective, metacognitive, technology‑based, and communication approaches. Inform students about financial resources available for their disability‑related circumstances, as per qualification criteria outlined by applicable sources. Maintain accurate record‑keeping through progress notes in the database, ensuring confidentiality per applicable laws and university procedures. Collaborate with professors to ensure implementation of appropriate academic accommodations while respecting academic integrity and human‑rights legislation. Develop content and provide training on learning strategies to students. What you will bring: Master’s degree in education or a related field (e.g., cognitive psychology, pedagogical psychology, multidisciplinary disability studies) or equivalent. Excellent specialised experience working with postsecondary students living with a disability who have specific academic requirements. Training and at least two years’ experience in student learning and cognitive and metacognitive intervention. Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written). Extensive experience in the functional evaluation of students and their learning environments. Knowledge of adaptive technologies used in academic settings. Knowledge of university teaching principles. Proven ability to build relationships of trust. Knowledge of legislative provisions and educational and public policies, and their current trends with respect to persons with disabilities. Ability to work with multidisciplinary groups. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Strong organisational skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet firm deadlines. Experience using various software programmes such as the Student Information System (SIS), Microsoft Windows, word processors, spreadsheet programmes, publishing software and database systems.
