Position: Speech-Language Pathologist – AAC ClinicPosition Type: Temporary Full-Time Position AvailableHourly Rate of Pay: $44.67 - $57.90Job Posting Number: P-A-25 Position Overview The Speech-Language Pathologist in our Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Interdisciplinary Outpatient Clinic is responsible for providing quality Speech-Language Pathology assessment and treatment for Face-to-Face Communication to individuals with complex speech and/or physical impairments. Experience with high-tech or low-tech AAC systems and strategies is an asset (e.g., customizing various communication programs or developing paper-based tools and resources). Primary Responsibilities Maintains all appropriate clinical documentation in accordance with department policy and procedures. This includes completing patient charting, maintaining statistics, progress notes, etc. and composing professional correspondence regarding patients. Participates as a member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team along with an Occupational Therapist, Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) and Equipment Co-ordinator to review patient cases, identify client treatment needs, recommend and prescribe appropriate assistive technology. Maintains professional knowledge regarding speech-language pathology (SLP) and AAC practices, processes, technologies, etc. by reading professional journals, attending skill specific courses, workshops and conferences. Conducts in-service and education sessions for hospital staff, students, clients, client’s caregivers, etc. regarding AAC services. Assigning and monitoring the work of the CDA, Equipment Co-ordinator and SLP Students. Other job duties as required. The successful candidate must possess A master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a university in Canada or equivalent Active and current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and working knowledge of the legislation governing the practice of Speech-Language Pathology Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Individual Authorizer Status for Communication Aids or be willing to take this course through the Centralized Equipment Pool (CEP) 8-Week Foundations in AAC course or be willing to complete this course through CEP within the first 6 months of employment Demonstrated interest and experience working with individuals with special needs and AAC technology, strategies and techniques Experience and working knowledge with available advanced communication technologies and the Ontario Assistive Devices Program (ADP), including the functionality of the Centralized Equipment Pool (CEP) is an asset Strong interpersonal, communication (written, verbal and presentation) and organizational skills Ability to exercise appropriate clinical judgement Ability to manage an assigned and varied caseload Ability to support clients, families and caregivers by providing individual and group training to support the development of communication skills at home Ability to be flexible, self-directed, problem solve and work effectively with minimal supervision Interest or affinity with technology is an asset (i.e., understanding of various operating systems for computers and mobile devices and respective software) Proficiency with Microsoft programs is an asset (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams, Excel) The ability to assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner. Human relations skills sufficient to develop effective therapeutic relationships with patients and their families and to develop and maintain positive working relationships with physicians and other members of the health care team. Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
