We are expanding our design team and are looking for top design professionals with strong technical design skills and an eye for detail.PositionDesigner, Furniture Applications Specialist: You will spend most of your time generating product and space plans for our sales team. Using client specifications, you will craft custom designs that address aesthetics, functionality, and cost. Our designs are solutions that meet specific client needs. You will use computer-generated plans, 3D renderings, and other visuals to turn ideas into realities and create unique designs. The role requires creativity and precision, attention to detail, and a strong customer service focus to balance multiple projects.ResponsibilitiesConsult with the sales team and travel to client locations to confirm site details, dimensions, and requirements; serve as a technical resource for internal teamsGenerate scale drawings/3D visuals, including furniture products, fabrics/finishes, and layouts, ensuring compatibility with site requirements (including power and data availability)Compose accurate specifications and bill of materials, including costing estimates; contribute to the RFP process, tender submissions, and proposals; prepare presentation materials (renderings/graphics) and attend client meetingsReview and audit specifications prior to orders; coordinate with installers to ensure design complianceParticipate in the client consultation process, translating client needs into actionable design principles/objectives; present design solutions to the sales team and clientsReview and validate project plans for feasibility and compliance with local building codes and site requirements (power and data availability)QualificationsDesign experience in a similar role, preferably in contract furniture, dealership, furniture manufacturing, or related industryPost-secondary degree or diploma in interior design or related field (architectural technologist, etc.) is an assetExperience in a client-facing roleStrong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office, spreadsheets, and project applicationsExperience with furniture design/specification software for planning/rendering and BOMs (AutoCAD, Project Matrix, 2020, CET Configura, etc.)Strong math skills and ability to determine accurate costing/estimatesAbility to distinguish and identify coloursExperience composing and delivering business presentations for clients and internal stakeholdersWork environment and benefits: This is a full-time, permanent position, typically Monday to Friday in our Ottawa office.
