We are headquartered in Calgary and maintain a satellite office in Houston.What You Would Do in This RoleThe Senior Electrical Designer prepares complicated drawings and charts. The Senior Electrical Designer also independently completes thedesign of different aspects of energy industry related projects from inception tocompletion. Duties include:Preparing layouts, calculations and designs related to the most complicatedelements of projectsDesigning and detailing complicated new components from previous designsbased on engineering instructions, government and regulatory codes andclient standardsProducing drawings in a complicated field with minimum technical guidanceCoordinating complicated work between field and officeAssisting site during constructionAssisting with engineering feasibility and cost studiesReporting progress of work assignments to immediate supervisorChecking the work and assisting in the training of less experienced draftingand design personnelEnsuring all drawings and materials are in accordance with Vista and clientspecifications and standardsMaking general recommendations on the utilization of new drafting/designtechniques, normally within an area of specializationAnalyzing design elements for potential trends, technical feasibility, client orcontractual requirements including identification of deviations in job scopeand estimation of changesSupporting the preparation of design estimates, schedules and staffingrequirementsExtensive experience with generating 3D modelsbased on engineers’ design sketches for cabletrays, junction boxes & local control panels, e-house equipment, EHT, etc. Creating 2Ddrawings from reference of the 3D modelsExperience with production of energy industryfacility related drawing packages including SLDs,area classification drawings, electrical layouts, JBwiring diagrams, motor/VFD schematics, cableschedules, EHT isometrics, etcExtensive experience with demand loadcalculations, voltage drop calculations, cable trayfill calculations, etc. and the ability to thoroughlycheck others’ calculationsExperience with the requisition of electricalequipment such as switchgears, MCC, UPS,EHT panels, e-houses, etc. is considered anassetAbility to interpret information from vendorelectrical drawings, P&IDs, LDTs, isometrics etc.and visualize client requirementsPerforming other duties as requestedRequirementsEight years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industryTechnical school certification / degree or equivalent experienceAbility to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil, structural & architectural, electrical, instrumentation & controls and pipingAdvanced computer skills and experience with major drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, CADWorx, SmartPlant, AutoPLANT, AVEVA and PDMSExtensive knowledge of applicable government regulations and regulatory codesExcellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven ability to collaborate with team members in a multi-discipline environmentStrong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detailAbility to meet safety requirements to attend site visitsPreferredTen years of experience in a designer capacity, ideally with a focus on the energy industryWhy People Like Working with UsWorking with Vista is a chance to contribute to the typeof challenging municipal and industrial projects that the world requires.
