Role Overview The Production Planner is responsible for ensuring best practice(s) in demand planning, inventory planning, production planning and supply planning for complex programs/products. This position will work closely with the Master Scheduler, Purchasing and Logistics. The Production planner shall ensure that production schedules are created completed on time and within budget. Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to continuous improvement by suggesting and/or implementing improvements to safety, costs, reduction in frustrations, etc. Prepare daily & weekly production schedules Determines production resource needs Issue all production orders per planned orders and production schedule Close and reconcile production/work orders Report and drive solutions on material availability issues Work with the Procurement specialist to solve any material shortages Participate with material requirement planning improvements/implementation team Drive, monitor & status production progress (Work In Progress) filling in any shortages Ensure that any unused material is returned to stock Prepare and maintain progress and other reportsCreate, maintain, and ensure execution of the Production Schedule Review long‑term forecasts to identify and mitigate possible capacity/material issues and recommend appropriate action Work with cross‑functional team to coordinate operations and activities within and between departments Review demand and supply to understand constraints/bottlenecks and propose alternative capacity or areas needing capacity improvement to meet demand Participate in business planning meetings to plan activities in future time periods Recommend stock to support a pull system for products and to reduce lead‑times Perform ongoing analysis of weekly, monthly and future capacity to optimize product level loading and achieve manufacturing continuity during low and medium‑volume months Read and analyze charts, production orders, production schedules and other records/reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs Administer physical count activities with Material Stores Operators and reconcile inventory discrepancy Perform and justify Inventory Adjustments Required Skills and Abilities Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, lead business discussions and train others Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments Ability to effectively facilitate cross‑functional team meetings in problem‑solving activities Proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills utilizing data and reports Well‑developed problem‑solving skills Able to find new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing practices as needed High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability Meticulous records maintenance skills Education and Experience 5–10 years’ of experience in manufacturing (asset) Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain Management (asset) 5–10 years’ experience as a Production Planner (asset) Advanced knowledge of ERP systems related to materials, scheduling, MRP, MPS, BOM operations/processes Thorough knowledge of MPS/MRP, Demand Flow, JIT, Forecasting, Inventory Planning, and Kanban (preferred) Special Considerations Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
