We are specifically targeting students who are specializing in a Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering degree. If you are not currently located in the area of this co‑op position, you are willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co‑op term. You are also currently a student enrolled in a Canadian post‑secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co‑op term (you will also be returning back to the post‑secondary institution once the co‑op term is completed). Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co‑op experiences completed. Working Conditions Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50‑minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere. Access: This is a drive‑in/drive‑out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members. Key Responsibilities Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures. Collaborate with engineering and operations for the development of daily, weekly and monthly mine operations plans. Work in wide ranges of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, traditionally operated and autonomous fleets, production scheduling, and optimization. Contribute to drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services to mine production and other mine site departments. Supervise and perform analyses of operating areas, work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and operating procedures. Assist with the development, tracking, and reporting of compliance of mine permits. Perform economic evaluations, efficiency analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation. Develop and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business. Qualifications Working towards an Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering. Motivated self‑starters with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously. Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel. Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate sophisticated ideas to all levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co‑op is required. All students will be required to complete pre‑employment drug and medical screenings prior to commencing work.
