SHN is committed to diversity and inclusion and is an equal opportunity employer.Position DetailsReporting to the Patient Care Manager of Outpatient and Community Mental Health, the Mental Health Therapist will provide specialized comprehensive services to the Outpatient Mental Health Program at SHN and act as a Mental Health Therapist providing counselling and support to Outpatients. This role will be primarily based at Pathways Clinic on Nielsen Rd, but may be required to work at other SHN locations as needed. This position is ideal for a Mental Health Therapist with a passion for working with the Tamil community to provide therapy through individual and group sessions.ResponsibilitiesConnecting with Tamil-speaking patients who are referred to the serviceProviding cognitive and behavioural therapy, group counselling and psychoeducation according to a variety of theoretical models and best practicesEstablishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships based on trust with patients and their families; participating in case conferences/meetings with patients, family, service providers and members of the interprofessional teamCollaboration and clinical support to colleagues to meet the needs of the patient population serviced and to provide integration and continuity across the care continuumDemonstrating sensitivity to cultural and ethical issuesRequirementsMaster’s degree in an appropriate field and member of a regulated health professionFluency in Tamil (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding)At least 5 years of previous experience working in mental healthKnowledge of current hospital functions, health care trends, and evidence-based therapiesExperience applying Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and assess situations and problems effectivelyEffective verbal and written communication skills in English and TamilStrong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work well within an inter-professional team and foster effective working relationshipsCommitment to confidentiality and to SHN safety programs and practicesProven good attendance recordAccommodation And Diversity StatementScarborough Health Network (SHN) embraces and celebrates our community’s unique multicultural heritage and diversity.
