About the Role The Manager, Career Development plays a key role in advancing the First Nations Technology Council’s vision to increase Indigenous participation and leadership in the technology sector. This position manages the Technology Council’s Career Pathways Program, including paid internship placements, mentorship, and graduate career development activities that connect learners from digital skills training to meaningful, work-integrated opportunities in the tech sector. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Curriculum and Learning Systems, The Manager will work closely with industry partners, graduates, and internal teams to ensure that internships and placements are culturally safe, aligned with industry needs, and supportive of long-term career growth. The role requires strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills, with a focus on supporting both graduates and employers through the internship, mentorship, and placement lifecycle. About Us The First Nations Technology Council is an Indigenous-led, innovative non-profit mandated by First Nations leadership in British Columbia. We work to advance digital literacy, improve internet connectivity, and provide guidance on data and digital technology for all 204 First Nations across the province. Primary Responsibilities Manage the Career Pathways Program, including the end-to-end delivery of the Internship Program and the Mentorship Program, supporting the placement of digital skills training graduates into work-integrated learning opportunities, while creating welcoming and inclusive spaces that promote dialogue, learning, and support. Serve as a primary point of contact for program participants and industry partners throughout the placement process. Match graduates with opportunities that align with their skills, career goals, and cultural needs. Provide direct career development services to participants, including resume and cover letter support, LinkedIn/portfolio development, mock interviews, job search strategies, and individualized job coaching. Support participants with pre-placement onboarding, ongoing mentorship coordination, and check-ins during their placements. Collect and analyze participant and employer feedback to improve program outcomes. Create, maintain, and strengthen relationships with industry partners to expand placement opportunities. Collaborate with employers to ensure culturally responsive workplace practices and supports for Indigenous participants. Prepare and manage agreements with industry partners, ensuring that program commitments are met and required documentation is submitted on time. Track and document participant progress, placement activities, and program outcomes. Help track program spending and support the preparation of reports and updates that share progress with funders, leadership, and industry partners. Work closely with the Digital Skills & Career Development team to ensure integration between training programs and career pathways. Participate in regular team meetings, share insights, and contribute to broader organizational goals. Gather information on student outcomes for both internship program participants as well as the broader FNTC student population. Other duties, as mutually agreed upon and assigned. Skills and Abilities Excellent relationship-building abilities with diverse stakeholders, including industry partners, Indigenous communities, and program participants. Partnership development & negotiation: scope opportunities, negotiate terms, and manage MOUs/agreements with employers and PSIs/private providers. Strong organizational and project coordination skills; the ability to manage multiple priorities. Risk management & problem solving: identify issues early in placements (fit, safety, performance, conflict) and resolve collaboratively with participants and employers. Strong communication skills (written, verbal, facilitation). Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently with initiative. People leadership & coaching: coach interns/mentees and guide staff/volunteers; provide clear, actionable feedback and support performance growth. Competence using Google Workspace, project management tools, & virtual meeting platforms. Data literacy & reporting: comfort with dashboards/CRM or LMS data (e.g., Salesforce, Monday.com) and translate insights into decisions and produce funder-ready stats and data. Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, cultural safety practices, and systemic barriers to participation in the technology sector. An in-depth understanding of colonization, decolonization, land issues, Indigenous worldview, settler/Indigenous relations, and antiracism. Requirements A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (e.g., Indigenous studies, education, business administration, or equivalent experience). CCDP or an equivalent career development/counselling credential is preferred but not required. Minimum 2 years of experience in program management, career development, or a related field. Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations with demonstrated cultural competence. Familiarity with the BC technology sector and labour market is an asset. Some travel within the province of BC may be required for this role.
