Intermediate Civil Engineer

Intermediate Civil Engineer (HGC, Englobe) We are seeking an Intermediate Civil Engineer with a minimum of 6 years of experience in the design, management, and construction of engineered earthworks projects, including waste management facilities, dams, engineered containment ponds, and associated infrastructure in the upstream oil and gas industry in Alberta and British Columbia. Location: Downtown Calgary, Alberta. May require trips to the field ranging from single to multiple days. Responsibilities Project leadership: Oversee the planning, design, and execution of waste management facilities, including engineered containment ponds, produced water ponds, stormwater ponds, tailings ponds, lagoons, and landfills. Technical expertise: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, provide technical support to EITs, conduct hydraulic modeling, site assessments, and engineering analyses. Regulatory compliance: Ensure all projects adhere to Alberta and BC regulations, including AEPA guidelines, Directive 58, Directive 55, the Water Act, and Management of Saline Fluid guidelines. Team development: Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance and QA/QC support. Quality assurance: Manage project documentation, design reviews, and approvals in line with professional engineering standards. Problem solving: Address and resolve technical challenges, bring practical expertise and innovative solutions. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Environmental Engineering or a related field. Minimum 6 years of progressive civil engineering experience focused on earthworks and waste management in Alberta or British Columbia. Experience designing and grading containment ponds, reservoirs, landfills, roads, dams, and similar infrastructure. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and registration with APEGA. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for waste management facilities in Alberta and BC (Directive 55, 58, Management of Saline for Hydraulic Fracturing Guidelines). Demonstrated success in managing complex multidisciplinary projects with a focus on timeliness and budget control. Strong communication, leadership, problem‑solving, and collaborative skills. Preferred Assets Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, PCSWMM, and HEC‑RAS. Strong project management skills for concept through completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Adaptability to flexible work schedules when required to meet deadlines.
