OverviewThe Workforce Planning Lead will provide strategic and operational leadership for workforce deployment across the hospital, with a specific focus on electronic rostering and temporary staffing. This is a key role in driving the hospital's approach to establishment control, cost-efficient staffing, and safe service delivery.Main duties of the jobThe Workforce Planning Lead will drive improvement in roster quality, workforce data reporting, and flexible staffing controls, ensuring all staffing activity is aligned with operational demand and financial targets. Through expert guidance, system leadership, and performance insight, the post-holder will shape how the hospital plans, delivers, and reviews its workforce in a more sustainable and strategic way. You will lead the optimisation of the HealthRoster system, working with managers, HR and Finance to ensure staffing is efficient, sustainable and aligned to demand. This is a chance to make a real impact by improving roster quality, providing powerful workforce insights, and embedding stronger controls on flexible staffing. You will also build capability across the organisation by training and upskilling roster leads, creating a consistent and modern approach to workforce planning.Key ResponsibilitiesLead workforce deployment to align rosters with establishment levels and financial controls, so staffing is safe, efficient and within budgetImplement and optimise HealthRoster and SafeCare across all departments, so rosters are accurate, timely and consistently appliedMonitor and manage flexible staffing (bank and agency), so reliance on agency is reduced, bank usage is maximised and compliance is maintainedProduce workforce reports and forecasts, so leaders have clear insights to make informed decisions and manage risks effectivelyDeliver training and guidance to roster leads and managers, so capability improves and consistent workforce planning is embedded across the hospitalDrive continuous improvement in workforce systems and processes, so the hospital achieves greater efficiency, transparency and controlKey RequirementsExperience implementing and optimising an e-rostering system, ensuring hospital-wide adoption and consistent useProven ability to manage a temporary staffing function to deliver a flexible, compliant and cost-effective serviceStrong knowledge of workforce planning and establishment control to balance safety with financial efficiencySkilled in analysing workforce data and turning insights into clear, practical solutionsAbility to produce accurate, easy-to-understand workforce reports for managers and senior leadersConfident in guiding and challenging managers on rota planning, staffing resources and use of headroomStrong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to navigate challenging conversations and influence senior stakeholdersBenefitsPrivate Medical InsuranceContributory pension scheme (total contribution up to 20%)25 days holiday plus bank holidaysLife assuranceTravel season ticket loanFamily friendly benefitsA range of retail discountsExcellent career development; with clear career pathways and access to further education.Application InformationSalary is up to £75,000 per annum, depending on how closely your experience matches our requirements.
