Learn more at www.riversidenaturalfoods.com.Position SummaryThe Facilities Technician will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of building systems including HVAC, boilers, chillers, pumps, and compressed air equipment. This role requires hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or with contractors to ensure optimal equipment performance. The role supports preventive maintenance programs, responds to issues as they arise, and helps ensure a safe and reliable working environment for all staff.Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Operation & TroubleshootingPerform daily inspections and operational checks on HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, compressed air systems, and other equipment on the Facilities Assets List.Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and controls issues related to building systems.Monitor system performance and adjust to optimize efficiency and reliability.Respond promptly to facility-related breakdowns or alerts and take corrective action as needed.Attend to basic building repairs, caulking, light piping, assembling or relocating accessories, equipment, or furniture.Assist in loading and unloading equipment, accessories, or furniture.Perform minor repair work for scopes under Facilities as directed by the Facilities Supervisor/Manager.Preventive Maintenance & RepairsCarry out scheduled PM tasks on HVAC, chiller, boiler, and related facilities equipment.Replace filters, belts, and other consumables as per maintenance schedules or as directed by the line manager.Document all maintenance activities in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).Identify potential issues before they become major problems and escalate as needed.Contractor & Vendor ManagementCoordinate and oversee contractors performing specialized maintenance or repairs.Ensure all work is completed according to Riverside’s standards and safety requirements.Maintain records of service contracts, completed work, and equipment warranties.Assist, host or escort contractors for interventions on Riverside’s premises.Facility Monitoring & ReportingConduct and log daily building system checks, documenting temperature, pressure, and operational readings.Track system performance trends and report deviations to the Facilities Supervisors/Manager.Recommend and implement improvements for energy efficiency and equipment reliability.Health, Safety, & ComplianceFollow all company safety policies and procedures while performing work.Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, food safety workshops, and workplace inspections.Ensure that equipment rooms and work areas are kept clean, organized, and safe.Riverside prioritizes Food & Peoples’ Safety as a top priority; the ideal candidate is expected to live this culture and maintain a safe environment.Qualifications & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent.Minimum 2 years’ hands-on experience in building systems maintenance with a focus on HVAC, boilers, and chillers.Basic knowledge and skills in electrical.Solid troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical components of HVAC, chiller, and boiler systems.Working knowledge of pumps, compressed air systems, and related auxiliary equipment.Experience with daily operational checks, performance monitoring, and PM scheduling.Understanding of basic mechanical, electrical, and control principles.Skills & AttributesStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure.Excellent communication skills for working with contractors, vendors, and internal teams.Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and urgency.Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or in a team setting.Basic computer skills, including CMMS data entry and MS Office applications.Working ConditionsFull-time position, primarily onsite at our Greater Toronto Area facilities.Occasional evening, weekend, or on-call work for urgent facility needs.Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and working in confined spaces or at heights.Exposure to mechanical equipment noise and temperature variations in plant areas and exterior works.What We ExpectValues-led: respect, teamwork, resourcefulness, and a sense of fun.
