Apply if you are an exceptional Go, Rust, or C/C++ software engineer interested in next-generation open source VMM, container technology, or related networking and storage projects.Container, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure are essential for modern software deployments. We invest in open source projects related to application isolation, workload orchestration, OCI containers, microservices, and cloud infrastructure.Current projects include:RustVMM, a potential new hypervisor for Linux, emphasizing performance, security, and operability.Rockcraft, enhancing Docker image quality, security, and consistency.LXD, a system container and VM manager used on Ubuntu and other Linux platforms.Kubernetes projects like MicroK8s and Charmed Kubernetes.Charmed OpenStack, OVN/OVS, and Ceph for cloud platforms.We hire system-level C/C++, Golang, Rust, and Python developers to work on security-critical, performance-critical, and mission-critical code, impacting cloud computing technologies.Location: Remote roles available in every time zone.Responsibilities include:Designing and specifying new featuresEngaging with upstream communitiesConducting security reviewsPerformance benchmarkingCollaborating with a distributed teamWriting and reviewing high-quality codeDebugging and fixing issuesQualifications:Strong academic record and degree in Computer Science or STEM, or compelling alternative experienceExperience with open source virtualization or container techKernel or low-level system experienceProficiency in EnglishLinux (Debian/Ubuntu) experienceExcellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skillsResult-oriented and self-motivatedWilling to travel twice a year for up to two weeksAdditional Skills: Performance engineering and security experience are valued.What we offer:Distributed work environment with biannual in-person team sprintsLearning and development budget of USD 2,000/yearAnnual compensation review and performance bonusesComprehensive benefits including leave, parental leave, Employee Assistance Programme, travel opportunities, and moreAbout Canonical: Canonical is a pioneer in open source, publishing Ubuntu and advancing AI, IoT, and cloud technologies.
