Job Description The Senior Bookkeeper / Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, processing payroll, reconciling accounts, and assisting with job cost tracking. The ideal candidate will have experience with construction accounting, including progress billing, subcontractor payments, holdbacks, and project costing, in accordance with Canadian accounting standards and CRA compliance requirements. Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to : Financial Recordkeeping & General Accounting Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accounting software. Accounts Payable & Receivable Process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports, ensuring compliance with project budgets. Manage customer invoicing, including progress draws, change orders, and holdback calculations. Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding payments. Payroll & Compliance Process payroll for field and office staff, including union and non-union employees. Maintain accurate records of source deductions, WSIB / WCB, EI, CPP, and vacation pay. Prepare and remit government filings (GST / HST, payroll remittances, T4s, ROEs, etc.) on time. Job Costing & Reporting Allocate costs accurately to specific jobs, work orders, and cost codes. Assist project managers with cost reports and budget-to-actual analyses. Support year-end closing and external audit preparation. Administrative & Other Duties Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems for financial documents. Assist with vendor management, insurance certificates, and subcontractor documentation. Support management with financial insights and process improvements. Record daily financial transactions and reconcile bank, credit card, and petty cash accounts. Prepare journal entries, monthly financial statements, and supporting schedules. Qualifications & Abilities Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Business Administration. Minimum 3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the construction industry. Proficiency in accounting software (Sage 50 / 300, or equivalent). Strong Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with project management software (Procore, Buildertrend, etc. an asset). Knowledge of job costing, progress billing, and retention accounting. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with project managers, vendors, and clients. Discretion and integrity in handling confidential financial information. Solid understanding of Canadian GAAP, GST / HST regulations, and construction-specific billing practices. #J-18808-Ljbffr
