About The Branch As part of the Protective Services Division, the Wildland Fire Management (WFM) branch contributes to the protection of people, property and the development of sustainable, fire resilient Yukon communities and infrastructure. WFM directly maintains and oversees the safe training and operational practices, and values natural ecological processes to ensure operational efficiency within the territory. WFM is the primary operational response branch for wildfires across the territory, and leads operational response to flooding and other emergencies. About The Job The Director of Wildland Fire Management is responsible for the management and direction of the Wildland Fire Management Branch. This includes the program areas of Incident Management, Program Delivery, Logistics and Capital Assets, Business Services and Prevention and Mitigation. These program areas comprise a decentralized emergency management organization for the coordinated preparedness and response to wildland fire. This position maintains safe practices, natural ecological processes, fiscal accountability and operational efficiency. As a team leader, the Director of WFM fosters a collaborative team approach, both within branch, the Protective Services Division, and with response partners, external contacts and clients. The Director is an important member of the division’s management team and provides leadership to staff to encourage, strengthen, enable, and support local governments across the territory. Essential Qualifications Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume. A bachelor’s degree in natural resources, public administration, business or related field; Experience working with First Nation/municipal/community governments; Experience in providing direction and strategic leadership in wildfire management, emergency management, or related field; Significant experience managing human resource matters, building a culture incorporating health and safety, as well as collaborating with internal stakeholders; Significant financial acumen, including managing a large budget, as well as multiple contracts & capital assets; Experience in developing and implementing programs, policies and procedures; and, Experience in Fire Management would be considered an asset. Candidates who have education, training and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications may be equally considered.
