Reporting to the Associate Director – Prepared Foods Bakery, the Assistant Bakery Merchandiser supports the purchasing function of the Bakery Department by establishing business relationships and working closely with local suppliers. The position also includes handling weekly promotion plans, providing solutions to product issues, and vendor follow‑ups on rebates and other bakery‑product related matters. T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 37 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 14 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion will bring more new stores in the next couple of years. Responsibilities Maintain regular communication with local suppliers to ensure the business needs of Bakery Departments are fulfilled. Negotiate and establish contracts with local vendors; evaluate their brand performance, pricing, service level and prepare and analyze purchasing reports. Ensure all vendors meet company food safety standards by working closely with the Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) department. Co‑operate and assist to ensure all materials and packaging purchased meet food safety and quality standards. Explore and develop new local vendors, maintain and enhance business partnerships with them. Monitor and replenish inventory via placing orders with local suppliers in a timely manner to ensure adequate inventory with good quality is available in the warehouse. Handle weekly promotion plans. Handle store and customer enquiries regarding bakery products and related issues. Follow up with local vendors on matters related to orders and rebates. Set up and maintain the bakery product information system, including EOS update, store product ingredient list and new product applications. Perform any other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of experience in the food service industry, supermarket chain store bakery department purchasing operation. Knowledge and prior experience in food products is an asset. Good negotiation skills with sound business judgment and decision‑making. Ability to build, develop and maintain relationships. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) is an asset. Intermediate knowledge in using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Some travelling to stores and/or suppliers is required.
