Job Profile Under the general supervision of the Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor (or designate), the Electronic Technologist – Instrumentation is responsible for maintaining process controls and electrical equipment in proper working order across all Wastewater Services Division facilities. Key Responsibilities Maintain and calibrate control instruments (mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic). Diagnose malfunctions using complex electrical and electronic equipment. Perform repairs, including part replacement or fabrication. Design, build, install, start‑up, and tune control systems. Install new equipment and instrumentation, adjusting and calibrating to operational readiness. Calibrate safety equipment such as personal gas monitors. Select and order equipment, materials, and tools. Maintain service logs and files for all control equipment. Document, program, and configure PLC and DCS control systems. Train City personnel on new and modified control systems. Produce as‑built wiring diagrams, operational diagrams, and part drawings. Improve process control systems for better regulation, reliability, and safety. Ensure operator interfaces accurately reflect field conditions. Program and configure intelligent devices (stand‑alone PLCs, switches, PLC/RTU nodes) and manage digital process communication networks. Review technical drawings and project documentation for completeness and accuracy. Assist in training other employees. Oversee trade persons or other City employees during installations or major repairs. Ensure compliance with Workers’ Compensation, Human Rights, safety regulations, and safe work practices. Perform other related duties as assigned. Education and Qualifications Successful completion of Grade 12 or GED (or equivalent training and experience). Diploma from a recognized Community College Engineering Technology Program in Instrumentation or Electronics. Active member of C.T.T.A.M. (Certified Technicians & Technologists Association of Manitoba) at the Technologist level. Valid Manitoba Power Engineer Certificate, Class 4 or better (preferred). Broad knowledge of instrumentation, hydraulics, pneumatics, electricity, and electronics. Experience in computer control, PLC, SCADA, and instrument maintenance. Proficiency in troubleshooting complex electrical and electronic equipment. Ability to design, assemble, and place basic control circuits in service. Ability to plan, organize, and report on programmed instrument servicing. Skill in interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and specifications. AutoCAD Electrical proficiency (preferred). Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency. Effective verbal and written communication, accurate record keeping. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, suppliers, contractors, and the public. Thorough understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations, and procedures. Conditions of Employment Maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada (or valid work permit). Have a Limited Specialized Trade Electrical License (M License – Technologist) or equivalent. Pass a Police Information Check at your expense. Hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License and provide a driver’s notice in force document on request. Be physically capable of performing all job duties. Work may involve exposure to noxious odors, gas, dust, and adverse weather; safe working habits must be followed. Work may require confined/hazardous locations necessitating self‑contained breathing equipment. Work may include standby duty on a sequential rotation basis.
