This position requires continuous improvement of quality and safety in all aspects of service delivery. Responsibilities Provide direct and indirect mental health clinical services for children and youth experiencing a mental health crisis or acute psychiatric illness in the Emergency Room, Psychiatric Emergency Services, or inpatient units. Conduct trauma-informed mental status and substance use assessments. Deliver crisis stabilization, triage services, and develop therapeutic care plans. Coordinate case management and discharge planning in collaboration with other health care professionals. Offer psycho‑education and family support as required. Document all assessments and care in the electronic health record. Screen referrals, collect collateral information, and schedule appointments with child and youth psychiatrists. Initiate recommendations for further treatment planning and liaise with related service providers. Qualifications Registered RN or RPN with BC College of Nurses and Midwives. Competency in Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice (2nd Edition). At least 2 years of recent experience working with children and youth with acute mental illness; crisis or emergency mental health experience preferred. Recent training in Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent. Current CPR certification. Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse (CPMHN{C}) certification is an asset. Skills & Abilities Conduct age‑appropriate psychiatric assessments, including risk evaluation. Knowledge of DSM‑IV diagnoses and related treatment protocols. Experience in suicide prevention and crisis intervention. De‑escalation skills for hostile or aggressive clients. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in high‑acuity situations. Establish therapeutic relationships and communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Apply respectful communication, active listening, and problem‑solving skills. Maintain clear written documentation and organize workload effectively. Typing and computer skills sufficient for electronic health record reporting. Physical capability to perform job duties.
