Calgary, Canada Helcim Inc. Full time

ABOUT HELCIM Helcim was founded with a mission at heart: to be the world’s most loved payment system. We believe that by offering small businesses in North America a decidedly human payment solution where it is easier to sign up and use while being transparent and affordable, we can empower them to grow and prosper. Simply put, helping small businesses thrive is at the very core of our business model, and we think that’s a great way to do business. From the very start, we knew that we wanted to be different from every payment processor out there. We want the merchants we serve to feel supported and see us as a trusted partner rather than simply just another “cost of doing business.” We are relentless in our pursuit to provide a radically transparent and honest payments solution that flat out saves business owners money, all while treating them like human beings. THE POSITION Helcim is searching for a talented Product Design (UI/UX) Manager to lead and grow a small team of talented product designers. This role is perfect for someone who is deeply skilled in UX and UI design but also thrives as a people manager—mentoring, coaching, and helping designers excel. As part of Helcim, a fast-growing fintech payments company, you will work closely with cross-functional partners, including Product Managers, Engineering Directors, and other key stakeholders, to elevate the user experience of our products. Your leadership will shape our design culture and push the team toward innovative, data-driven solutions that make a real impact on our merchants. Here are the things you’ll own day to day: Grow the team technically by leading design critiques, providing structured 1-on-1 feedback loops, and fostering a strong design culture. Push for innovation, constantly striving to improve the quality and impact of design work within the company. Bring a more quantitative and qualitative, data-driven approach to UX design by integrating insights from Pendo and other research methods. Own and maintain key UX KPIs, ensuring that design decisions align with measurable business and user outcomes. Work alongside Product and Engineering leaders to ensure seamless collaboration and execution. Advocate for and implement best practices in design systems, research methodologies, and UX processes across the team. KEY COMPETENCIES People Leadership: Drives team performance to achieve expected results. Hands‑On Mentorship: Actively engage in UX/UI discussions and critiques, fostering technical growth within the team. Data‑Driven Design: Utilize both qualitative and quantitative insights to inform and validate design decisions. Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in the UX design process, coupled with excellent design execution skills. Effective Collaboration: Exceptional relationship‑building skills, enabling seamless collaboration with Product Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders. Quality Advocacy: Passionate about elevating product design quality, driving innovation, and pursuing excellence. A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE You have 5–8 years of total experience in product design, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. You stay close to the output, engaging in UX/UI discussions and critiques to help your team grow technically. You bring a data‑informed mindset, using qualitative and quantitative insights to inform design decisions. You are technically skilled, with strong expertise in the UX design process supported by an excellent design sense for execution. You have extensive expertise in design systems, UX patterns, and tokens, coupled with a robust knack for viewing designs and solutions from a systemic perspective. You are an excellent relationship builder, able to collaborate effectively with Product Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to align on product goals and strategy. You are passionate about raising the quality bar for product design, pushing for more innovation and excellence. You have a strong portfolio demonstrating your deep understanding of the UX process, research, and a strong design sense. HELCIM CULTURE IS; Being builders: We build things ourselves and we build them well. We use technology and our creativity to overcome challenges that would seem beyond the capability of a company our size. We improve what is already there, invent our way out of problems and we never stop dreaming of better. Choosing the harder path: We believe that the right decisions are usually the harder ones, so we embrace the challenge and endure when others quit. We choose what is difficult because it is more rewarding in the long‑term, and makes us resilient, so that we not only survive but thrive. Creating trust: We earn trust by striving to be our best selves every day and by lifting those around us. We recognize that trust is hard to earn, easy to lose and is tested continuously over time, so we make trust our way of life. Contributing to a company of many: We are stronger because of our collective passion, diversity, and fellowship. We believe only great teams can accomplish great things, and we ask the very best of each other. Together we create our own future.
