The Organizationivy has partnered with the BC Cancer Foundation in their search for the next Senior Development Officer, Gift & Estate Planning for the Interior/Okanagan regrion.The BC Cancer Foundation is the fundraising partner of BC Cancer and the largest philanthropic funder of cancer research and care in British Columbia.Operating across five regional offices, the Foundation is driving a powerful shift in how philanthropy fuels innovation, accelerates discovery, and improves outcomes for every person facing cancer in BC.With a team of over 90 staff, more than $110 million in annual revenue, and a donor base exceeding 80,000, the Foundation is one of the province’s largest and most impactful non-profit organizations.The BC Cancer Foundation is entering a bold new chapter - investing in business transformation, venture philanthropy, and a data-driven, donor-first strategy to expand its impact across the province.The PositionThe Senior Development Officer, Gift & Estate Planning (Interior) is responsible for cultivating future gifts through a portfolio of active planned giving donors, with a focus on the Interior region. The role’s primary goal is to build meaningful relationships with donors and prospects, initiate and advance gift and estate planning conversations, and secure confirmations of future support.In addition to future-focused legacy giving, the Senior Development Officer identifies, cultivates, and solicits current giving opportunities as part of a holistic donor strategy.This position reports to the Executive Director, Interior & North and works closely with the Gift & Estate Planning team, while regularly collaborating with colleagues in Major Gifts, Discovery Circle, Community Giving, and Donor Engagement.Key ResponsibilitiesFundraising & Relationship ManagementManage a portfolio of 125–150 prospective and confirmed legacy donors.Build, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships through in-person meetings, calls, and events.Engage donors strategically to inspire and secure future support aligned with fundraising and activity targets.Identify and solicit current giving opportunities as part of a comprehensive cultivation approach.Prospect Development & Pipeline GrowthQualify and develop new prospects through proactive outreach, referrals, and community engagement.Assess giving capacity, align philanthropic priorities, and contribute to the development of targeted cultivation strategies.Collaborate with the Prospect Research team to uncover and prioritize new opportunities.Internal CollaborationParticipate in donor and strategy meetings across teams.Engage with BC Cancer partners and support Foundation-led initiatives related to revenue generation.Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver a seamless donor experience and steward legacy gifts effectively.Reporting & Data IntegrityMaintain accurate and timely records in Raiser’s Edge.Track portfolio activity, gift confirmations, and blended giving opportunities.Provide regular reporting on progress and donor insights.Qualifications and Core CompetenciesEducation & ExperienceClient-facing experience in a relationship-driven professional role (such as gift planning, law, financial planning, or accounting), with exposure to - or the ability to learn - Canadian tax, estate planning, and charitable giving vehicles.Proven success managing a relationship portfolio - donors, clients, or key accounts - and meeting fundraising or business development targets through disciplined pipeline building, outreach, and stewardship.Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle; travel throughout the Interior region required.Core CompetenciesExceptional relationship-building skills, empathy, and professionalism.Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to tailor messaging for donors and advisors.Proven initiative, accountability, and organizational skill in managing competing priorities.Strong analytical and research capabilities to guide cultivation and solicitation strategies.High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical judgment in handling confidential information.Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or CRM an asset.Demonstrated alignment with BC Cancer Foundation’s values of Professional, Passionate, and Positive.Location & Work EnvironmentBased in Kelowna, working a hybrid schedule (minimum three days per week in the office and one day per week at the BC Cancer Centre).Travel across the Interior region for donor meetings and events is expected.Compensation & BenefitsSalary range: $65,000–$87,000, commensurate with experience and alignment with role scope.Five weeks’ vacation, plus office closures between Christmas Eve and New Year’s, and half-day closures before each statutory holiday.Comprehensive extended health and dental benefits, including the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP).Commitment to professional development, mental health, and employee wellbeing.Diversity, Equity, and InclusionThe BC Cancer Foundation is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity and inclusion.
