The Shift Manager maintains the clinical skills and knowledge necessary to be a reliable and competent resource person for staff members. Through the use of leadership skills, management tools and an understanding of the decision making process, the Shift Manager will work collaboratively with the Nursing leadership team to achieve departmental goals keeping in mind the Mission, Vision and Values and Strategic Plan of the organization as well as "Standards and Best Practices.RequirementsUpholds the Standards of Behaviour daily through interactions with others as an employee of the Dryden Regional Health CentrePromotes best practices for standards of careWorks with Nursing staff to promote and restore patients' health by day-to-day management and long-term planning of patient care needs; directing and developing staff; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staffs; providing physical and psychological support for patients, friends, and familiesMakes patient and ward rounds on a regular basis to evaluate patient acuity and staffing. Ensuring patients and their families are aware of patient information, including all rights and responsibilities, and assisting in the planning for discharge.Ensures continual delivery of high quality nursing careManages workload and creating nursing assignmentsIn collaboration with the unit manager, provides feedback to nursing workload to ensure patient safety and fiscal responsibility in coordination with Human ResourcesMaintains a healthy, collaborative team environmentIn the absence of the unit manager they will deal with staff issues and problems as they arise and ensure that the managers are aware of the situation. Complete and provide appropriate documentation to the unit leadershipActively participates in staff mentoring and education opportunitiesTakes a leading role in patient flow and movement through departments and systems; new admission bed assignments, facilitate travel arrangements for treat and returnsQualificationsBScN, PN Diploma, or equivalent education with designation/registration in a Health Care related fieldRNs/RPNs must have current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario; Registration with appropriate governing body is required for related fields as appropriateMinimum 5 years Health Care experience, Nursing experience preferredLeadership Experience is an assetSound clinical background and strong health assessment and diagnostic skillsBLS, Advanced Life Support, Neonatal/Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Core Course an assetEffective organizational and written skillsDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary health care teamExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAdvanced Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Advanced Life Support Certificate would be an assetExperience working in Emergency, Critical Care and OBS would be an assetEfficient computer skillsDemonstrates behaviours consistent with Dryden Regional Health Centre's Code of Conduct and Standards of BehaviourDemonstrates DRHC Core Values; Accountability, Integrity, Humility, Compassion and RespectProof of full Covid-19 vaccination status to be presented prior to hireThis is a Management position. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience; $59.57/hr.-$61.11/hr., plus up to 23% in lieu of vacation and benefits.
