What you will do...

Leads the definition and development of enterprise security architecture and capabilities in alignment with other technology plans and direction. Leads the enterprise security architecture practice and integrates security controls into architectures, designs, and solutions, providing oversight on the realization of the overall security posture for the enterprise. Aligns the Cybersecurity strategy and plans with business goals. Provides innovative thought leadership, strategic guidance, and cybersecurity expertise to support business and technology leaders to plan, enable and achieve targeted business outcomes through the choice of programs, projects, initiatives, and technologies.

What you are responsible for...

Establishes and maintains security architecture frameworks and practices across the enterprise, and communicates the strategy and roadmaps with a broad range of stakeholders including senior leadership and executives.

Provides leadership in the development, delivery, and enablement of security architecture to influence technology designs.

Translates cybersecurity policies and standards into technical controls and integrates into technology and processes to achieve adequate protection through layers of defence within various technical architectures.

Conducts key technology decision evaluations in collaboration with enterprise, solution and engineering teams to produce sustainable and innovative solutions.

Develops and maintains security architecture documentation including architecture roadmaps and vision documentation, reference architectures diagrams, and solution blueprints that can be used to translate security requirements into capabilities for projects and operations.

Provides a senior security leadership role in projects and initiatives with technology components, ensuring alignment with overall cybersecurity and technology governance and strategies while meeting the business needs.

Conducts cybersecurity architectural evaluations against cybersecurity standards, assesses and identifies gaps in security architecture designs, and recommends actionable security enhancements.

Champions and actively promotes a culture of cyber security throughout the enterprise IT division as well as the business units across the enterprise. Builds strong partnerships with planning, delivery, and applications support and operations teams to promote good security practices across corporate infrastructure and platforms.

Documents and reports on assigned projects by creating, collecting, reviewing, and updating documentation such as solution roadmaps and blueprints for current and new technology solutions so that projects are tracked accurately.

Communicates complex technical issues in an easily understood language orally and in writing to diverse stakeholders, and drives for solutioning and problem solving.

Ensure security policies, standards, and principles are applied for all company environments and, where required, across partner relationships.

Ensures Zero Trust Architecture principles are adopted across all company technology and IT environments including on-premise and cloud.

Reviews and approves technology related strategies, roadmaps, architectures, policies, standards, and designs for compliance with the Enterprise’s security architecture.

Stays abreast of current and emerging security technologies and security threats, and proposes and recommends enhancements to security architecture to mitigate risks.

What you need to succeed in this role...

Completion of a University Degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Security

10+ years of experience in cybersecurity with hands-on technical security architecture and implementation in large public sector organizations, with minimum 3 years’ experience in cybersecurity architecture.

Certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, TOGAF, SABSA, ITIL, ISO27001/2 or equivalent designation(s) is considered an asset.

Advanced knowledge and evolving level of technical security expertise for IT networks and infrastructure, applications, hypervisors / servers, end points, IoT/OT, cloud infrastructure and services etc.

Advanced knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques pertaining to Security Architecture and solutions, with demonstrated ability to communicate the complexities of technical solutions.

Advanced knowledge and proven experience in a majority of the following areas: intrusion prevention and detection processes and technologies; security threat-risk assessments; user end-point security; software development and DevSecOps; application security; network security; vulnerability management; data loss protection; data security; cloud security (IaaS/SaaS/PaaS); identity and access management; privileged user management; user entity behaviour analytics; IT resiliency. Proven ability to quickly learn and inform self on other and emerging areas related to IT/OT security subject matter.

Working knowledge and experience of cybersecurity framework and industry standards, such as NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, CIS, ISO27000, Payment Card Industry regulations (PCI DSS), BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).

Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to influence others, and provide specialized guidance and expertise to all levels of stakeholders internally and externally.

Demonstrated ability to build trusted and collaborative working relationship with business and technical resources.

Advanced written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and problem-solving skills and be able to interact well with peers, internal customers and vendors as necessary.

Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to handle conflict resolution, facilitating discussion, and alternatives of different approaches.

Strong decision-making capabilities, with a proven ability to weigh the relative costs, risks, and benefits of potential solutions and make sound recommendations to senior leaders and peers.

Solid planning, organization, and time management skills with strong ability to organize competing priorities.
