Senior Accountant “SkillsWaver” Profile:

As the Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing general accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and supporting various accounting functions within the organization. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail with a strong understanding of cross-border financial regulations, accounting principles, and best practices. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

Note: This role is hybrid which will require the individual to travel on-site 2-3 days per week to an office located within the Kitchener-Waterloo region. The current office location for SkillsWave is a co-working space at Catalyst Commons (137 Glasgow Street) but this location may change at any time based on company growth. In addition, this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

How will I make an impact:

  • Execute day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliation.
  • Execute the financial transactions associated with payroll processing, including salary and tax withholdings, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely invoicing of customers, tracking of receivables, and follow-up on outstanding payments.
  • Manage and maintain the general ledger by ensuring accurate posting of all transactions.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other key accounts.
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve any issues related to account balances.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leaders to ensure alignment of financial data and business objectives.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring all entries are posted accurately and on time.
  • Assist in preparing tax returns, including sales tax, income tax, and VAT.
  • Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable Canadian and US accounting standards.
  • Coordinate the preparation of year-end audit schedules and assist with audit inquiries.
  • Monitor and analyze budget-to-actual performance and provide recommendations for cost control and process improvements.
  • Analyze trends, costs, revenues, and other financial data to ensure the organization's financial health.

Suggested Qualifications/Experience:

  • Progressive experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably in the technology sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. Accounting Standards and familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with payroll and benefits processing systems is an asset.
  • Proactive, positive, can-do disposition, with evidence of the ability to support growing teams with integrity and flexibility.

The salary for this position is in the range of $75,000 to $95,000. The salary range is based on the minimum level of work experience and qualifications as listed above. This salaried position requires a minimum of 40 hours of work per week. More senior candidates may apply but note that the salary for the position has been set at the range listed.
