Major Responsibilities: Ensures compliance with funding agency requirements, university policies, GAAP, and government regulations. Manages the setup, monitoring, and closure of funds, including decisions on capitalization, coding, and allocation. Leads quarterly and annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes, including CAUBO and government submissions. Reviews and analyzes financial data to identify and resolve discrepancies, consulting with supervisors and stakeholders as needed. Oversees and guides the preparation of financial reports for various stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and timely completion. Develops reporting timelines and deadlines to ensure all divisions and departments meet financial requirements. Coordinates with departments to ensure accurate and timely financial processing, approvals, and payments. Oversees the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial records and documentation. Provides guidance and training to new employees and colleagues on financial processes and best practices. Recommends and implements improvements to enhance financial processes and ensure ongoing compliance. Reviews journal entries and expenditure approvals to ensure accuracy and proper fund reporting. Works directly with government ministries and external agencies to maintain compliance with legislation and reporting standards. Responds to inquiries from researchers, faculty, procurement, and accounts payable departments in a timely and professional manner. Qualifications: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS CPA designation (or eligibility for designation). Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience in a computerized environment, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Proven ability to develop and analyze spreadsheets, budgets, forecasts, and financial statements. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong command of the Microsoft Office Suite and financial software. Exceptional multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting demands. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information clearly. Demonstrated tact, discretion, and sound judgment in handling sensitive financial matters. Ability to manage competing tasks, including email correspondence, journal approvals, fund setup, and procurement activities. Skilled in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to explain financial procedures, fund balances, and project status updates.
