The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a UBC teaching hospital and one of two tertiary hospitals in Interior Health. Serving a catchment of approximately 250,000, RIH has 273 beds and provides high-level specialty care including cardiology, critical care, dermatology, neurology, infectious disease, internal medicine, medical oncology, nephrology, respirology, and rheumatology. Diagnostics include a clinical neurophysiology lab, sleep lab, MRI, two CT scans and echocardiography. RIH is the regional base for the High Acuity Response Team (HART) and offers general, neurosurgery, vascular, ENT, orthopedics, ophthalmology, plastic, urology, obstetrics and gynecology surgery. Our dynamic, collegial 32-person group welcomes both full-time and part-time applicants. Under an APP contract for emergency and an MOCAP contract for our Trauma Team Leader (TTL) program, we operate 14 shifts a month between the two programs for full-time members, leaving ample time to enjoy the outdoor activities of Kamloops. The department sees approximately 75,000 visits per year and is the third busiest trauma centre in British Columbia. Training and teaching opportunities are strong, with 3rd-year medical students, 4th-year electives, a family practice residency program (8 residents/year) and a new 3rd-year CCFP EM residency (2 residents/year) as part of the learning environment. The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower, opened summer 2022, added new operating rooms, surgical suites, more beds, respiratory therapy services, mental‑health and substance‑use inpatient units, obstetrics and a rooftop helipad. In July 2024 a new 9-room pediatric unit opened, featuring an isolation room, procedure and outpatient clinic rooms, and family‑centered amenities. We are recruiting for permanent staff and short‑ or long‑term locums immediately. Candidates with CCFPEM, FRCPC or ABEM credentials are encouraged to apply.
