Royal Columbian Hospital is hiring for multiple Casual Nursing Unit Clerk roles. Location New Westminster is known for its stunning waterfront views along the Fraser River, located on the north side of the Fraser River bordering several municipalities in each direction (Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, and Delta), making it the centre of the Greater Vancouver region. Highlights for the three‑phase redevelopment project include: A new and larger Emergency Department will have more treatment spaces and a satellite medical imaging unit More operating rooms and interventional radiology and cardiac suites on a surgical and interventional ‘superfloor’ More beds for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, obstetrical, and medical/surgical patients Larger maternity unit joined to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Advanced technologies and equipment 350+ underground parkade, new main entrance, and rooftop heliport RCH provides a number of highly specialized acute care services such as tertiary trauma, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology and thoracic surgery that often require the care of multiple medical specialists, multidisciplinary care teams and the use of specialized equipment and technology. In addition, RCH provides referral services in a variety of medical and surgical specialties such as mental health and substance use, internal medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, gynecology, urology, ophthalmology, plastic surgeries. Detailed Overview Under direct supervision, maintain unit records and supply levels; perform reception and clerical duties related to the operation of the unit. Responsibilities Transcribe physicians' orders by copying information, completing required forms and/or entering information into the computer and distributing as required. Schedule patient activities such as diagnostic procedures, appointments or transportation by contacting appropriate departments, physicians' offices or outside agencies, and maintaining related records. Maintain patient records according to established procedures by setting up charts, adding or removing forms, and forwarding discharged patient records to the Health Records Department. Perform reception duties such as greeting and directing visitors, answering the telephone, taking messages, answering routine inquiries or referring as appropriate; opening and distributing mail as required. Maintain unit stationary and supply levels by monitoring stock, preparing store orders, requisitions or stationary orders, completing equipment repair or maintenance orders as directed. Orient new staff and students to the unit by demonstrating procedures, answering questions and explaining unit organization and layout. Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing and photocopying. As required by the department, maintain timekeeping and other staff related records by coding and entering hours to timecards, transcribing rotation hours by copying information onto required forms and/or entering into the computer, according to established procedures. Forward timesheets and staffing information to the appropriate department. As required by the department, maintain relief staff call‑in list information such as name, telephone number and work availability; contacting staff to fill vacancies as directed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Grade 12 graduation, completion of the Unit Clerk training course plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to type 40 wpm. Ability to deal effectively with others. Ability to organize work. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Ability to operate related equipment such as personal computers and Meditech terminals.
