Details of the positionJob title:Educator in a school settingSchool / Centre /Department:Heroes' Memorial Elementary SchoolLocation :Cowansville, QuebecWorkload :20 hours per weekMonday to Friday : 12:20 pm to 4:20 pmDistribution of hours:Support in class: 10 hoursDaycare: 10 hoursStatus:RegularEffective date:As soon as possibleSalary :$25.20 - $29.07 per hourSupervisor :School principalNature of the workOrganizing, preparing and conducting a series of activities, in keeping with the educational project, fostering the overall development of students in preschool and elementary school in his or her care, while ensuring their health and safety.This employee can be called upon to provide support in the classroom.Description of tasksTASKS IN THE DAYCAREStudent assistance, support and safetyAssists students in dressing and undressing.Assists students in preparing and eating their meals and snacks, while ensuring that the rules promoting hygiene and well-being are observed.Ensures the supervision and safety of students in compliance with the rules of conduct, safety measures and recommendations of parentsAdministers first aid and, if necessary, administers medications according to medical requirements and the school’s policy and the parents’ instructions.Maintains order and cleanliness of the premises and upkeep of material and equipment.Activities and communicationPlans, conducts and participates in activities in keeping with the education program.Records student attendance.Informs parents and all those concerned about a student’s behaviourTakes part in meetings organized by the day care service technician as regards the organization and operation of the day care serviceShe may be called upon to introduce new school-based educators to the job.Performs any other related duty.TASKS IN THE CLASSROOMStudent assistance and supportHelp students settle into the classroom and prepare for learning activitiesAssist in developing students' independence (dressing, managing materials, etc.)Provide support for student learning, under the teacher's guidanceStudent supervision and safetyAccompany and supervise students during arrival, dismissal, and transitionsEnsure student safety and enforce rules of conductProvide first aid when neededClassroom organization and administrative supportAssist in classroom upkeep and material organizationPrepare and display educational materialsHelp with administrative tasks, such as photocopying or event coordinationCollaboration and communicationWork alongside the teacherAttend parent meetings upon requestSupport the planning of activities in collaboration with the principal and school teamDesired profileSchoolingMeet one of the following 2 profiles:Hold a Secondary School Diploma and an Attestation ofVocational Studies in Daycare Services orHold a diploma and attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authorityExperienceHave one (1) year of pertinent experienceOther requirementsFluent in French and English (written and oral)Hold a certificate dated no more than three (3) years attesting to the successful completion of either:standard first aid course of a minimum eight (8)-hour durationa refresher course of a minimum six(6)-hour duration updating the skills acquired in the course mentioned in subparagraph 1.
