As the Senior Lighting Artist, you will collaborate closely with our creative team, including Art Directors and Creative Directors, to set the mood, atmosphere, and tone of our projects through lighting. Your expertise will ensure alignment with project vision and adherence to narrative and production deadlines. Join us in shaping the future of gamingRESPONSIBILITIESUnderstand the game design and artistic direction documents to become familiar with the challenges that will impact game lighting and be able to propose atmosphere and lighting ideasAssist in the design of lighting systems that will support the atmosphere and gameplay effects and highlight the work of the Level Design and Level Art teamsIn addition to light sources, assist in the placement of lighting specific vfx items and in the management of the lighting portion of the levelsHave the artistic director and technical director validate the quality of the lighting and make any changes that are requestedVerify and maintain the quality of the lighting from both an artistic and technical standpoint across many levels and multiple projectsBe a point of contact for other team members in order to help solve any technical or artistic lighting problemsFix the lighting bugs entered by testersOptimize the lighting, in keeping with the technical limitations of the engineBe involved in the ongoing maintenance of our live and evolving game as it pertains to lighting.Carry out all other related tasksOther responsibilities as assignedREQUIREMENTSCollege diploma or University degree in 3D, Game Development, Graphic Arts, Fine Arts or similar fieldFormal training or as a lighting artist in games or film or experience in a studio photography settingMinimum five (5) years of experience in the field of real-time lighting for games and have a high-level understanding of both the artistic and technical guidelines / impacts that lighting can have on a game environmentArtistic knowledge of lighting techniques, real-time and pre-rendered.Knowledge of lighting, colour theory and image compositionPractical experience using project management software such as Jira, Shotgun, BaseCamp, etcExperience in photography an assetExperience in computer graphics or pre-rendering an assetA portfolio of your own work which demonstrates a diverse range of lighting types and settings and an ability to tell a story through composition, staging, and lightingPREFERRED EXTRASFounded in 1993 by James Schmalz, Digital Extremes ranks as one of the world's top independent video game development studios.
