Position Overview The Mental Health Support Worker is a member of a multidisciplinary team that assists in carrying out individual service plans under the direction of Clinical team members on the Mental Health Team. The role is responsible for rehabilitative and supportive functions, including skill building/enhancement, creation and maintenance of formal and informal support networks, linking to and maintaining formal and informal support services, and providing accurate information and consultation to families regarding skill building and development of supports. Experience Two years of related experience with people with mental health issues or other human services. Experience in life skill teaching and support to individuals who struggle with mental health issues or other disabilities or conditions. Experience in developing, planning and coordinating services. Education & Training University or College education in human services, related disciplines, or high school diploma with related training. Certification / Licensure / Registration Valid driver’s license and a vehicle. Qualifications and Skills Knowledge of recovery as it applies to individuals with mental illness. Knowledge of community support services related to income, housing, employment, social integration and self‑help. Demonstrated skills to establish supportive, trusting relationships with individuals and stakeholders. Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm as a team member. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Effective networking and agency relations skills. Knowledge of assessment, crisis intervention, service coordination and community consultation. Problem resolution skills to handle sensitive and complex issues involving multiple services and interdisciplinary teams. Physical Requirements Evening and weekend work will be required. Additional Requirements This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
