Position Overview Reporting to the Psychology Lead of the Special Education and Student Services department, the Psychologist provides consultative and direct psychological services to meet the needs of students, families and schools at both the elementary and secondary panels. Demonstrating a strong commitment to a tiered model of evidence-based practices, the Psychologist promotes understanding of both exceptional and non-exceptional students. They act as a resource to school staff, supporting program accommodations, modifications, alternative programming and the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Additionally, they assist in determining eligibility for exceptionality designations and specialized class placements. The Psychologist works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment, including collaborating with community agencies to ensure comprehensive support. The Psychologist provides supervision to unlicensed Psychology staff and Psychology residents in training and works in a manner which meets all ethical, professional and legislative requirements of the profession. Job Description Supervise unlicensed Psychology staff completing licensing requirements for autonomous practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (e.g., Psycho-educational Consultants) and Psychology residents and practicum students in training. Diagnose complex neurodevelopmental, mood, anxiety, and disruptive behavior disorders. Develop and implement evidence-based interventions to support student learning, academic skill development, and system-wide initiatives. Provide consultation and support to educators on student learning and achievement within a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework. Conduct comprehensive psychological, psycho-educational and diagnostic assessments to evaluate students' cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral functioning and present assessment findings to school staff, students, caregivers, and parents. As part of a multidisciplinary team, including school personnel and parents, prepare student applications for admissions to specialized community placements (e.g., ECPP). Support classroom and Resource teachers in the development of Individual Educational Plans (IEP). Design and deliver workshops, presentations, and in-service training on topics related to mental health, well-being, and academic achievement. Provide individual counseling and psychotherapy to children and adolescents in schools. Formulate a crisis response and intervention strategy to support students, parents, and the school community during times of tragedy or emergency. Lead critical incident responses and participate in Violence Threat Risk Assessments (VTRA). Provide risk assessment for suicide and supportive interventions as per the Urgent Care Protocol. Coordinate with community agencies to connect students and families with external services and mental health supports. Comply with all board policies and privacy legislation in relation to student records and information sharing. Maintain detailed, accurate records of psychological assessments and student interventions in compliance with the Standards of Professional Conduct established by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Participate in meetings, committees, staff development and training as required. Pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in the field and in accordance with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Perform other duties, as assigned by the Psychology Lead. Required Qualifications Doctoral degree in Psychology (Candidates with a Master’s degree and a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice as a Psychological Associate in Ontario may be considered at a pay rate compensatory to that position). Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice as a Psychologist in Ontario or eligible for registration as a Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. School psychology as a declared area of competency with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or eligible to declare school psychology as a declared area of competency. Training or coursework in child and adolescent development. Experience working with children and/or adolescents. Training or coursework with psychological and psychoeducational testing instruments. Experience conducting psychological and diagnostic assessments for children and youth. Training or coursework in therapeutic interventions for children and/or adolescents. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal abilities and capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Familiarity with a wide range of educational, intellectual, and social-emotional standardized assessment tools. Knowledge of current best practices and ethical standards in school psychology. Proficient with technology required to do assessments, intervention, and documentation (e.g., Q-Interactive, Laserfiche). A valid driver’s license and a vehicle. In Addition, The Following Will Be Considered An Asset Counselling or clinical psychology as a second declared area of competency with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Experience with screening measures for literacy and math screening tools (DIBELS, Acadience, etc.). Certification in Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA). Training and Experience in clinical interventions such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), etc. Proficiency in clinical supervision skills. Previous school board experience. Annual full-time salary range: $104,103 – $130,480.
