Peterborough Limited are recruiting a Learning Officer to work at our Museum site in Peterborough. Fixed Term contract until 31/12/2026 – 29.4 hours per week – £29,907 per annum. The main purpose of this role is to provide a professional, friendly and efficient service to customers, understanding their needs and requirements. About the role We are looking for a Learning Officer to support the administration of school bookings for the Museum and to assist with teaching sessions for schools both in the Museum and at schools. Responsibilities include answering enquiries, being a point of contact for teachers, encouraging bookings and managing the school diary. Teaching duties involve welcoming schools, preparing and cleaning up after sessions, and delivering museum learning sessions as set out by the Learning Coordinator. The role also supports the Learning Coordinator in managing the teaching rota and communicating with schools. Key Deliverables Represent and deliver the values and expectations as set out by Peterborough Limited. Manage school bookings from enquiry to invoicing. Manage the school diary and book schools into the Museum calendar, liaising with other staff as necessary. Assist the Learning Coordinator in managing the teaching rota to ensure sessions are staffed. Deliver museum learning sessions as set out by the Learning Coordinator, at the Museum and in schools, and participate in school events and other learning activities as required. Set up, take down, check and prepare resources related to the sessions taught. Contribute to the review and development of the learning programme and the process of evaluation. Support the Learning Coordinator in communicating with schools. Assist with any other administrative tasks relevant to the museum learning programme. Undertake any other relevant tasks as required. Demonstrate commitment to professional development by evaluating your own practice and learning from effective practice of others. Attend staff training appropriate to the role. Be aware of health and safety related to all activities. Skills and Experience Experience working within a school environment or with children in a cultural setting. (E) Experience and confidence in presenting, performing, and engaging with children or leading a group. (E) Excellent customer care skills. (E) Able to demonstrate excellent administration skills. (D) Able to demonstrate good communication skills internally and externally. (D) Requirements English and Maths at GCSE (C or above) or equivalent. (E) Competent IT user. (E) Knowledge of working with children. (E) An interest in museums, heritage, history, natural science, the arts or culture. (D) Demonstrate and practice excellent interpersonal skills. Communicate effectively with colleagues, children, and adults. Work well as a team member and independently, using initiative when leading a session on your own. Be able to work flexibly and problem‑solve, with the ability to think on your feet when the unexpected happens.
