Technical Designer

Position Overview The Technical Designer is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining patterns from the initial design through all levels of prototypes to bulk production. The role works closely with Product Developers and Designers to capture a superior fit, design concept, and high standard of construction while adhering to seasonal schedules and the production calendar. What You'll Do Create and maintain patterns in Gerber Accumark, completing all required changes and updates throughout style development. Partner with Design to fully understand style construction details, styling intent, fit, and proportions. Ensure products are engineered to Canada Goose’s quality and manufacturing standards. Measure all garments to create style documentation following Canada Goose’s internal manuals. Maintain brand integrity, size, and fit consistency within the product category. Collaborate with sample makers to ensure construction understanding for each garment. Validate pattern accuracy before style release to production. Provide feedback to Design and Product Developers on construction challenges, recommend alternatives or improvements, and update the pattern, BOM, and sketches accordingly. Arrange reviews with Product Developers to discuss style, fit, and construction, meeting Canada Goose standards. Create and manage mockups in a timely manner when required. Deliver patterns to Grading, Marker Making, QA, and Production Departments, ensuring clear communication of details. Let's Talk About You University Degree or College Diploma in Fashion Arts with a technical/patternmaking emphasis. Grading experience is an asset. 6-10 years of experience in patternmaking, preferably in outerwear. CAD pattern drafting experience is required; Gerber Accumark experience is an asset. Experience with 3D design software is an asset. Knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop is an asset. Proficiency with MS Outlook. Ability to work from initial design through bulk production. Solid understanding of fabrics, garment construction, and fit, including fitting on live models and translating to flat patterns. Self‑motivated, team player, reliable, dedicated, and diligent. Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Strong communication skills for interactions with coworkers, contractors, and suppliers. Clear written and verbal communication to convey garment fit and construction techniques internally and externally. Strong understanding of body shapes and fit is a must. Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and meet demanding deadlines. Working Conditions Office and manufacturing environment.
