Matchbox Consulting Group seeks a Telecom Engineer to support medium‑complexity engineering and infrastructure projects across a provincial electrical utility network. Contract Length: 1 YearWork Arrangement: Hybrid Responsibilities Core Engineering & Design Deliver safe, compliant engineering solutions including design work, specification interpretation, and resolution of technical challenges. Prepare signed and sealed engineering documentation as the Professional of Record in accordance with EGBC and organizational practices. Conduct engineering analysis, planning, estimating, and quality management for medium‑complexity projects. Perform field reviews, provide construction support, and resolve site issues through independent engineering judgment. Project & Operations Support Coordinate schedules, report progress, monitor scope changes, and provide recommendations on contractor payments. Define engineering scope, establish design criteria, maintain stakeholder communication, and ensure deliverables meet scope and objectives. Support project teams as a Project Engineer when assigned, ensuring alignment across multidisciplinary groups. Technical Leadership & Governance Review external engineering submissions for compliance, constructability, and design quality. Guide, mentor, and advise engineers and technical staff; conduct peer reviews to support quality assurance requirements. Participate in the development of engineering practices, technical standards, and independent studies. Ensure adherence to PPM requirements, regulatory expectations, and all relevant engineering design practices. Site & Documentation Management Respond to site queries, participate in site meetings, and conduct inspections as required. Maintain full project documentation including completion records and construction packages. Must-Have Qualifications Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with EGBC, or EIT eligible for P.Eng. Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering (recognized in Canada). Minimum 8 years of progressive telecom engineering experience. Knowledge of IP networking. Strong understanding of EGBC ethics, quality management, and continuing education requirements. Ability to work with standard telecom/engineering design tools and CAD/drafting standards. Ability to utilize a Permit to Practice (own sole practitioner permit or employer’s permit). Nice-to-Have Qualifications Experience with telecom transport systems such as MPLS, SONET, microwave, LTE, 5G, satellite. Prior experience supporting or working within utility environments. Familiarity with teleprotection circuits, DACS, WiMAX, towers, antennas, and grounding. Demonstrated experience with project/task management methodologies.
