Position Summary The Volunteer Recruitment & Management Specialist will lead end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of volunteers at Data for Good Edmonton. The role ensures a positive, structured volunteer experience—from initial outreach to active participation—while continuously improving recruitment processes and tools. Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Sourcing: Manage the full volunteer recruitment lifecycle—from posting opportunities to onboarding successful candidates. Leverage LinkedIn, community job boards, meetups, and referrals to attract diverse talent. Maintain accurate records of candidates and recruitment activities using simple tracking tools (e.g., Excel-based ATS). Develop creative sourcing strategies to engage volunteers with a range of technical and non-technical skill sets. Volunteer Onboarding & Coordination: Oversee onboarding logistics for all new volunteers, ensuring they have access to weekly team meetings, the Discord community, and a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Collaborate with other team leads to tailor onboarding materials and expectations to each volunteer role. Serve as a friendly, organized point of contact during the first weeks of engagement, ensuring smooth integration into the community. Process Improvement & Strategy: Identify and implement process improvements to streamline recruitment and onboarding workflows. Help design standardized onboarding checklists, transition plans, and process automations for future scalability. Support leadership in developing volunteer management best practices that strengthen engagement and retention. Relationship Management & Community Engagement: Build relationships with volunteers and community partners to foster long-term engagement. Represent Data for Good Edmonton at events, meetups, and other community gatherings to promote opportunities and awareness. Work closely with project and operations leads to ensure volunteer placement aligns with project timelines and organizational priorities. Qualifications 1–2+ years of experience in a formal recruitment or talent acquisition role. Understanding of full-cycle recruitment, from sourcing to onboarding. Proficiency using LinkedIn and other recruitment channels to attract candidates. Comfortable tracking and managing candidate activity using basic tools (e.g., Excel or Google Sheets). Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a collaborative and approachable style. Resourceful and adaptable—able to thrive in a non-profit setting with limited tools and systems. Strategic thinker, eager to improve and document processes for long-term sustainability. Experience or interest in volunteer management, data, or the social impact sector is an asset. Time Commitment Approximately 2–4 hours per week, including: 1 hour in weekly team meetings 1 hour in broader team meetings Additional time for recruitment and onboarding activities Peak weeks (during events or projects) may require additional availability.
