Applications due by October 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM.What You’ll Be DoingReporting to the Manager of Development Review, lead the processing of development applications, prepare and present reports to Committees and Council, and provide mentorship and advice to other planners.Work with staff, consultants and the community to ensure development reflects Clarington’s priorities on sustainable development and urban design.Coordinate implementation of the Official Plan and Zoning By-laws through development approvals; support the Committee of Adjustment.Lead numerous Municipal priority projects including several Strategic Plan projects as outlined in the Clarington Strategic Plan 2024-27.Assist in the administration of the Division by contributing to work programs and policies/procedures.Represent the Department/Municipality at senior levels, negotiate with developers and consultants, and provide professional planning advice at Committee and Council meetings.Review studies and documents from other departments and agencies, coordinate reports, and help formulate the municipality’s position.Coordinate and update Zoning By-laws, provide public information, and comment on development and building permit applications.Provide evidence as an expert witness at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT).Engage with the public and stakeholders to explain policy options and their impacts.Maintain planning records, maps, databases, files, and planning policy documents; monitor current trends in planning legislation and practice.Perform other duties as required.What You BringA professional University Degree in Planning or related discipline (or equivalent qualifications) to the satisfaction of the Deputy CAO, Planning and Infrastructure.Full membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI).More than three (3) years of progressively responsible, municipal-environment experience in policy development, community engagement, and project management, including senior planning responsibilities.Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, leadership, communication, project management, facilitation, report writing and presentation skills.Thorough working knowledge of the Planning Act and related legislation, official plans, and zoning by-laws processes.Excellent knowledge of planning principles, development processes, and urban design concepts; ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.Ability to exercise judgment, obtain consensus, and resolve issues; develop alternatives in a dynamic, multi-stakeholder environment.Excellent project management skills; ability to work independently and as a team member.Ability to represent the Corporation at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings and other functions.Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple responsibilities with evolving deadlines and reporting relationships; coordinate input from support staff.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and GIS.Legally able to work in Canada.What We OfferSalary: Grade 7 (CA$100,785 - CA$122,505) of the 2025 Non-Affiliated Salary Administration Program.Hours: 35 hours per week, with after-hour meetings required.Flexible work arrangements for eligible roles; details discussed through the selection process.Comprehensive benefits and pension program to address work and life needs.Additional information and requirementsThe successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, a current (within the last 180 days) satisfactory criminal reference check from a Canadian Police Information Centre.
