The pediatrician performs physical examinations and developmental assessments, manages pediatric illness, and help families meet their healthcare needs. The Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching an interdisciplinary group of students including residents, medical, dental, physician assistant and nurse practitioner students.Daily OperationsAssess the health status of infants, children, adolescents and young adults and develop appropriate plans for health supervision and illness management. Perform physical exams and developmental assessments, manage pediatric illness and help patients meet their health needs. Teaches, counsels and advise children and families about growth and development, health status, illness, health promotion and disease prevention, anticipatory guidelines. Provide care that reflects evidence-based practice, ethical considerations, cost and clinical effectiveness. Provide for appropriate follow-up care. Prescribe medications according to state and federal laws and regulations to treat illness, improve health status and provide preventive care. Participate in periodic chart reviews as part of ongoing quality assurance. Take call on weekdays, weekends and holidays in rotation with the other practice providers. Precept resident and students in the clinical setting.As Pediatric faculty, responsible for teaching and teaching related activities for Meharry trainees including residents, medical, dental, graduate, allied health, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students. Teaching responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, evaluative materials, and test preparations. Maintain professional skills through continuing education.
