Position Summary Applications are invited from qualified individuals to instruct in the Practical Nursing Diploma program at North Island College. This instructional assignment, up to 12%, involves teaching in one or more of the theory courses via a blended delivery method to a cohort of Practical Nursing students. PNS 241: Professional Practice 4 PNS 244: Professional Communications 4 The successful candidate will implement creative strategies in the preparation and delivery of theory activities; use initiative in providing documentation and follow-up with regard to student concerns and problem resolution; and bring facilitation skills to management of conflict. The schedule for this assignment will be flexible to meet the needs of the program. The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College’s vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, relational skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues. Instructional Plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments. Use a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs. Teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter or skill activity in courses and outlines. Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment. Be available to students during scheduled office hours and classroom hours to discuss progress and other issues. Clearly communicate learning outcomes and evaluation methods. Design and conduct evaluations and submit grades in a timely manner; maintain records as required. 2. Typical Professional Duties of Instructional Faculty Be aware of College educational policies and contribute to plans and goals. Advise on inventory, enrollment management, and safety concerns as appropriate. Demonstrate knowledge of computer applications relevant to teaching; maintain professional development. Participate in College committees and department activities; undertake other related duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience A current practicing license as an LPN, NP, RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP). Faculty not licensed by BCCNP may be considered with equivalent education and experience. One of the following credentials in adult education from an accredited post-secondary institution: Provincial Instructor diploma (PID) or Proof of PLA completion. Three to five years recent related practice experience (full-time equivalent). Credential in Adult Education or equivalent or in progress from an accredited post-secondary institution. Experience with varied teaching approaches in distributed learning environments is an asset. Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record). Current CPR level HCP. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Minimum three years full-time RN/RPN/LPN experience within the last five years. Knowledge of BC Practical Nursing curriculum and scope of practice is an asset. Experience or interest in Indigenous health and/or global health is an asset. Ability to use diverse and motivating teaching approaches in distributed settings. Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Experience with online learning management systems (e.g., Kaltura, D2L Brightspace). Proficiency with MS Office and computer applications; valid BC driver’s license and vehicle access.
