Education, Training and Experience – Must be a graduate of a recognized training program in Medical Diagnostic Sonography and certified with Sonography Canada or ARDMS, or have passed the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment (CCSA). Responsibilities Receives and prepares patients for testing by reviewing requisitions, patient case history, and correlating clinical history with examination to determine a testing process, entering patient information into the diagnostic imaging information system, and explaining procedures to patients. Performs ultrasound procedures on abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, and small parts by positioning patients, placing probe, and utilizing ultrasound and Doppler techniques to obtain images, labeling permanent records and archiving data. Assists in procedural rooms by setting up biopsy trays following basic aseptic technique, supporting the radiologist during interventional procedures, and providing patient comfort. Checks resultant images for technical quality and completeness, prepares technical worksheets, and discusses images with the radiologist to ensure examinations meet requirements. Facilitates workflow by confirming requisition information meets departmental standards, regulating inpatient examination time, and arranging patient transportation as required. Monitors equipment performance, performs quality control duties per manufacturer guidelines, records results, identifies malfunctioning equipment for repair, and notifies the supervisor. Demonstrates procedures and equipment usage to staff, including medical residents, technologists, and students, and participates in orientation of new employees. Maintains patient and hospital records by entering data into diagnostic imaging and hospital information systems. Participates in approved research and special projects in collaboration with the supervisor and other health care professionals. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements and reports unsafe situations immediately. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate of a recognized training program in Medical Diagnostic Sonography with certification through Sonography Canada or ARDMS, or passed CCSA. Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for Sonography procedures (abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, small parts). Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic techniques. Knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with diagnostic sonographic and medical imaging equipment. Ability to perform sonographic examinations in compliance with departmental standards. Strong interpersonal skills to communicate orally and in writing with clients, families, co‑workers, physicians, and external agency staff. Ability to operate related equipment. Capable of working independently and in collaboration with others, establishing workload priorities. Proficiency in CPR techniques. Computer skills, including effective use of a computerized client care information system. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
