POSITION DESCRIPTION A Social Worker – College Heights Secondary School – 0.2 FTE (Fridays) Community Schools Coordinator – Limited Duration Contract (School District No. 57, Prince George). The coordinator enhances the educational, social, and cultural functioning of at‑risk students and helps children achieve balance in their lives by addressing their physical, emotional, and mental needs. The coordinator collaborates with school staff, students, parents, and community members to develop, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate community school programs and services under the direction of the school Principal / Vice‑Principal. Interested applicants are required to supply Resume Cover Letter Certificates & Diplomas (Bachelor of Social Work) Transcripts 3 current professional references and their email addresses Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of concepts of community education Ability to analyze and support children in crisis Good oral and written communication skills Access to community resources and needs Work independently Participate in ongoing professional development Conflict resolution and group processes skills Highly motivated Effective collaboration with teachers, students, parents, community residents, agencies, businesses, and service professionals Identifying unique characteristics of school Become familiar with demographics and cultural makeup of the school (discussion with PVPs and other staff PAC SPC) Become familiar with services, facilities, and community resources within the catchment area Review past records outlining successful programming and collaborate with stakeholders Community Liaison Act as the primary staff person for the local governing body in managing all organizational matters Support the local governing body in promoting the Community Education concept and Community School model among school PVPs, staff, neighbourhood residents, community agencies, and local politicians Liaise between various governmental bodies Provide leadership to all aspects of the Community School operation such as: Coordinating integration of community resources and services Developing partnerships with community organizations and businesses Facilitating fundraising and grant submissions Supporting staff and volunteer involvement Coordinating community use of facilities Typical Duties and Responsibilities Support students and/or parents when appropriate. This support may include but is not exclusive to the following: Self‑esteem building Anger management Social skills development Parenting skills support Drug and alcohol prevention education Transition assistance to high school Nutritional and health education Cultural awareness / increasing cultural pride and identity Develop, supervise, assist, and evaluate Community School programs and services Promote the Community School concept in the community Develop proposals for grants and funding as required Manage budget under the direction of the school Principal / Vice‑Principal Implement and support development of Community School policies Draft reports as required Recruit volunteers and facilitators such as parents, RCMP, Red Cross, Public Library, HRDC, coaches, etc. Coordinate food and clothing donation pickup and distribution Liaise between parents, students, and school Principal / Vice‑Principal Coordinate parent room, SBT, SSST, staff meetings, school ground circulation (recess, lunch), PAC meetings, and other school activities Consult parents to inform them of services offered by the school district and outside agencies and assist them in accessing these services if necessary Coordinate special events QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Requirements Bachelor of Social Work degree Desirable Qualifications Minimum of two years of Social Work or other related work experience with vulnerable youth Experience working with at‑risk children and families Ability to work without professional supervision Experience organizing, facilitating, and supervising after‑school programs with large groups of students in sport, art, leadership, and community involvement within the school building and greater community Proven experience in small and large group activities during the school day with school and greater community Proven successful grant writing to secure additional funding from international, national, provincial and local organizations Proven financial management skills for multiple program budgets Ability to develop working partnerships with multiple community organizations (e.g., Canadian Tire, federal institutions, YMCA, etc.) Proven experience in special event organization for school and district‑wide events Skill to assess situations while they are happening and make adjustments as required Contact Shannon Daines – PrincipalSarah Petrisor – District Principal, Human Resources (Secondary FRIMM Rural Schools / Programs)Linda Picton – District Principal, Human Resources (Elementary Schools in Prince George) Employment Type: Part‑TimeExperience: YearsVacancy: 1Monthly Salary: $59,711 – $109,520 #J-18808-Ljbffr
