About the Role As Fundraising Copywriter, you’ll write persuasive, donor‑centred and community‑building copy across channels that drives response and deepens loyalty. You’ll partner with strategists, designers, and account managers to turn briefs and insights into copy that converts on deadline and on brand. What You’ll Do Core Writing & Production Draft and refine copy for: email appeals & journeys, landing pages, donation pages, SMS, direct mail letters & lift notes, ad variants, thank‑you/receipt copy, stewardship series, event scripts, and one‑pagers/cases for support. Produce multiple headlines, leads, and CTAs per brief; deliver A/B test variants with clear hypotheses. Localize voice and tone by segment (monthly, mid‑level, major, lapsed, prospects) and region as needed. Donor‑Centred and Community‑Building Messaging Translate strategy, research, and data into simple, specific, emotionally resonant messaging. Apply behavioural triggers ethically (urgency, social proof, specificity, impact framing). Write with accessibility and clarity in mind (readability targets, scannable structure). SEO Optimization & QA Partner on pre‑send QA (links, merge fields, previews, spam checks). Review performance (opens, CTR, CVR, RPR, average gift, unsubscribe) and iterate copy accordingly. Maintain message consistency across channels and throughout journeys. Use keywords without "stuffing," and answer long‑tail search intent meaningfully in ways that prioritize generative AI and organic search results on web and social. Work from briefs; ask sharp questions; manage drafts, edits, and version control. Meet deadlines, flag risks early, and keep work moving in shared tools. 3–5 years’ hands‑on copywriting experience, ideally in fundraising, advocacy, or performance marketing (agency or nonprofit). Proven track record writing direct‑response copy that hits revenue or response targets. Strong grasp of donor psychology, segmentation, and journey‑based messaging. Comfortable with data‑informed iteration and rapid testing. Meticulous editor with clean Canadian spelling and consistent style. Tools you know (or can learn fast): Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, Email Marketing Platforms & CRMs (e.g., Salesforce, Beacon, Hubspot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo). Working knowledge of CASL email & SMS best practices, list hygiene, and accessibility guidelines. Bonus Points Experience writing for equity‑driven or faith‑based organizations. Familiarity with direct mail formats and production constraints. Basic SEO for long‑form impact stories or blog posts. What You Value Equity, inclusion, and justice as non‑negotiables.
