One of the most critical roles at Ontario Power Generation – the Health Physicist – is now open for a 36‑month contract at our Whitby, ON site. Job Overview The Health Physicist reports to the Manager, Radiation Protection Programs & Field Support (Health Physics Department) and is responsible for executing the radiation safety program across OPG’s nuclear plants and support facilities. The role focuses on protecting station personnel and the public, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in radiation protection. Key Accountabilities Assist the Supervisor in operating the internal and external dosimetry service at the station or site, estimating internal and external doses for unusual situations. Provide technical advice to design groups on radiation protection improvements, including shielding, instrumentation, personal protective equipment, and ALARA initiatives. Conduct radiation investigations, manage the transfer of radioactive material, and formulate new or revised Radiation Protection Procedures. Interpret regulations and policies, approve radiation protection methods and equipment, and provide technical assistance to the operations group. Investigate non‑routine radiation protection problems, recommend solutions, and assist with environmental radiological measurements. Develop and deliver training courses, maintain a continuous training program, and conduct re‑examinations of plant personnel. Prepare routine reports on station radiological conditions and contribute to regulatory reports and technical reports on radiation protection experience. Resolve radiation problems specific to reactor units at an independent multi‑unit nuclear station, and continually assess solution effectiveness. Qualifications 4‑year university degree in a relevant science or engineering field. 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in health physics, radiation safety, or a related field. Certifications such as Radiation Safety Officer or Health Physicist, experience with the classification of radioactive waste, or background in electronics are considered assets.
