MSP uses housing-first and harm reduction principles in the provision of a safe, respectful and accessible place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Since 1972, MSP has provided a range of services to Winnipeg’s most marginalized residents, including emergency shelter and nutrition services, drug and alcohol withdrawal management services, health advocacy and support, case management services, housing support services, a food bank, and a mobile community outreach program.MSP is committed to building an inclusive workplace where diversity is valued, and to embody Truth & Reconciliation, Decolonization and Anti-Oppression as part of the culture and success of the organization.Job SummaryMain Street Project provides Withdrawal Management Services at two locations: 75 Martha and 146 Magnus Avenue. The primary purpose is to help participants begin their recovery journey through detox stabilization, support access to long-term treatment programs, and advocate for external recovery needs while expanding resource capacity. Both sites provide 24-hour support in a safe and stable environment at no cost to the participant. Prior to admission, all participants must receive a medical clearance which outlines how MSP staff can support a participant’s time in the unit.Staff conduct regular check-ins with clients regarding plans and well-being and assist with the creation of individualized detox care plans to support recovery goals.In accordance with MSP’s mission, goals, policies and procedures, the Withdrawal Management Support Worker functions as a member of a team providing services with respect, dignity, and the participant’s goals in mind.Duties And ResponsibilitiesEngage in intake coordination and review for incoming participants of MSP Withdrawal Management ProgramOversee intake into Withdrawal Management services including review of medical clearance forms, completion of intake assessment forms, and medication confirmation and reviewMedication administration, tracking, and monitoringCollaborate in medical health scenarios with MSP Nurse Practitioner and internal WFPS resourcesBuild relationships through one-on-one check-ins and documentation related to each participantSupport implementation of programming within the unitAdvocation and referral assistance for participants to internal MSP Case Management and external services based on goalsAssist participants in planning, problem-solving, and addressing immediate needs, including meals, clothing, and hygiene suppliesProvide support and resources without judgmentRespond to emergency situations; assess, intervene, and document critical incidents and request assistance when neededEnsure participants are informed of internal and external resources as neededEnsure care provided meets professional standardsWork collaboratively with external partnersMaintain accurate and confidential electronic and paper file recordsCollect and submit agency-required statistics on time and with accuracyMaintain cleanliness of the program area according to routine schedulesQualificationsRelevant experience in human services, preferably with adults experiencing homelessness, mental health and substance use issuesPost-secondary education in addictions and mental health is an assetStrong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate recordsAbility to build and maintain relationships with external partnersCompassion for working with individuals who use substances and experience mental health issuesClient-centered care philosophyApply Harm Reduction and Housing First philosophies in day-to-day supportKnowledge of the effects of poverty and health determinantsAbility to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary teamKnowledge of Indigenous cultureLived experience relevant to the roleKnowledge and ability to apply Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, MMIWG Calls to Justice, and UNDRIPExcellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skillsExperience with culturally diverse populationsProficiency in Microsoft Office & online databasesCriminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required; employee responsible for chargesCurrent CPR, Basic First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certificationsNonviolent Crisis Intervention certification is an assetConditions Of EmploymentPhysical demands: standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, cleaning dutiesExposure to biohazards including blood, bodily fluids, and syringesAbility to work with individuals who use substances and/or experience mental health issuesAbility to respond to high intensity incidents including medical emergencies and aggressive individualsComfortable with Indigenous ceremonies and practices (e.g., Smudging)Providing first aid as requiredCriminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check requiredAbility to embody MSP core values: Reducing Harm, Truth & Reconciliation, Anti-Oppression, Trauma-InformedValues & CompetenciesCore values: Reducing Harm, Truth & Reconciliation, Anti-Oppression, Trauma-InformedKey competencies: Crisis Management; Service Excellence – Meeting people where they are; Collaboration and External Relationships; Accountability; Decision MakingBenefitsCompetitive wages within the nonprofit sectorHealth & Dental BenefitsPension PlanProfessional Development OpportunitiesPaid Sick and Family DaysShift PremiumsEmployee Assistance ProgramApplication deadline: Open until filledPreference will be given to Indigenous people and those who reflect the people/population MSP serves.
