OverviewBroadridge is hiring a Data Center Engineer to join our team in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Data Center Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day activities that support data center operations, support of IT systems, network services, business-critical process and procedures that support the delivery of customer products and services.ResponsibilitiesManage all aspects of an enterprise Data Center to include deploying, maintaining, and providing operational support for all products and services housed within the Data Center environment.Build out our existing infrastructure and troubleshoot problems as they arise.Rack and stack data center equipment, including servers, networking devices, monitoring systems and other equipment; rack installation includes placing racks, cabling, powering up, and handing off systems to the next level of responsible parties.Install, remove, and troubleshoot hardware in data center racks without disturbing other hardware and critical infrastructure on site.Decommission life cycle of data center hardware, manage the inventory process, order replacement parts and return failed parts as required.Monitor and respond to systems to ensure integrity and continued operations; triage, troubleshoot, and resolve server systems (software, OS issues) in collaboration with other groups; perform Data Center Visual Walkthroughs and document alarms or systems running at diminished capacity.Provide technical expertise regarding data center operations while maintaining detailed documentation of tickets including symptoms, causes, and root cause resolutions when required.Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of the data center infrastructure; gather requirements from business users and work with Enterprise architects and team leads to improve data center delivery and support mechanisms and strategies.Collaborate with regional Data Center teams and asset management teams to ensure DC tools reflect installed equipment; coordinate with onsite facilities teams to verify power and cooling infrastructure.Monitor critical environmental areas such as fire suppression, power, cooling, and security functions based on available equipment and options.Perform administrative duties specific to the DC product/suite, including license management, reporting tools, access management, and supporting version upgrades in collaboration with internal teams.Assist on projects involving physical installation of cabinets, cages, cables, shelving, cable management, firewalls, routers, CSU/DSUs, servers, PDUs, storage technologies, and switches.Terminate and troubleshoot twisted pair, coax, RJ45, fiber, and legacy connections in the data center.Coordinate with internal/external groups (telecom providers, provisioning, equipment vendors, NOC, and internal departments) to install, troubleshoot, repair equipment and facility equipment.Participate in training aligned with corporate objectives to bridge skill gaps and learn new technologies.Act within Service Level Agreements (SLA) on tickets in your scope.Shift hours may vary and require some after-hours and weekend installation and support work.Be onsite in the data center and be responsible for receiving and shipping equipment, planning rack layouts, and infrastructure cabling.Maintain a clean and organized data center.Basic Skill Level RequirementsEducationHigh School DiplomaNetwork and systems designations/certifications are a plusExperience5+ years of Data Center experienceKnowledge of Dell PowerEdge Servers, HPE/HP Server Technologies, data center power types and standardsKnowledge of standard Cisco (or comparable) Networking technologies and solutionsUnderstanding of Dell EMC Storage types, tiers, and delivery needsUnderstanding of DCIM and DCIM methodologiesExperience with Windows, UNIX/Linux system administration and understanding of SAN/NAS storage, TCP/IP NetworkingSkillsA strongly motivated self-starter who conducts themselves professionally and works under minimal supervisionStrong organizational skills; ability to work with multiple groups to gather business requirements for data center effortsStrong analytical, multitasking and prioritization skillsProficiency in working in a fast-paced, complex, and dynamic business environmentProven ability to build relationships and influence individuals across regionsAbility to be a strong team player with commitment to overall organization goalsAbility to apply best practices for organizing and discovering complex infrastructure environments and aligning with IT servicesAbility to lift 50 poundsToolsFamiliarity with platform-specific technologies integrating with SNMP, IPMI, Nmap, and SSH, including PowerShell, Windows Administration, Linux OS, and AWS/Azure or other Enterprise Cloud environments that connect to a Data Center EnvironmentRecruitment ProcessThroughout your application process, you may be asked to connect with us virtually or in-person.
