When you work with us, you are collaborating with a trusted leader in Calgary’s analytics community.Role SummaryWe are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer to design, build, and deploy data-driven solutions that turn complex information into clear business insights.In this role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining Power BI reports and dashboards that help teams make smarter decisions. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand their reporting needs, model data effectively, and develop scalable solutions that improve data visibility and accessibility across the organization.The ideal candidate has a solid background in data modeling, ETL processes, and report creation within Power BI, with a strong eye for both technical accuracy and visual design. You should be passionate about transforming data into meaningful stories and ensuring that the information presented is both reliable and actionable.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and continuously improve Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations that clearly communicate business insights.Work closely with business units, analysts, and IT teams to understand data requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from multiple sources—including SQL databases and Azure Data Factory—ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reliability.Monitor Power BI service performance, troubleshoot issues, and fine‑tune dashboards for speed, scalability, and usability.Design and implement efficient data models that support robust analytics and enhance reporting performance.Ensure data security, manage user access, and maintain proper permissions across Power BI workspaces.Regularly update and refine existing reports and dashboards to reflect evolving business needs.Provide user support, training, and clear documentation to help teams effectively use Power BI tools and reports.Collaborate with IT and data teams to streamline data extraction, automate workflows, and improve reporting processes.Qualification and SkillsExperience: 5+ years as a Power BI Developer or Report Writer, with a proven record of accomplishment of building, maintaining, and optimizing complex Power BI reports and dashboards.Language Proficiency: Professional or native-level fluency in English, both written and spoken.Power BI Expertise: Advanced skills in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and visualization best practices, with a strong focus on creating insightful, well-structured reports.SQL Skills: Solid experience using SQL to query, transform, and manage data sources for Power BI solutions.Data Modeling: Strong background in data modeling and relational databases to ensure accurate, scalable, and efficient reporting.ETL and Data Tools: Familiarity with ETL processes and tools, particularly Azure Data Factory.Database Experience: Hands‑on experience with databases such as MySQL, SQL Server, and Databricks.Technical Bonus Skills: Knowledge of web development technologies, including PHP and Laravel, is considered an asset.Analytical & Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a talent for identifying data insights and improving reporting efficiency.Attention to Detail: Meticulous about accuracy, data quality, and visual design to ensure clarity and impact in every report.Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non‑technical audiences.Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.Preferred Skills and QualificationsHolding a Microsoft Power BI certification is a strong asset.Ability to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into Power BI to support accurate and effective reporting.Experience or familiarity with the real estate investment or asset management sector is a plus.Understanding best practices for data governance, security, and compliance within reporting and analytics environments.Experience using tools such as Python, R, or AI/ML frameworks to enhance data analysis and insight generation.Hands‑on experience integrating Python scripts or workflows into Power BI for data processing or automation.Working knowledge of cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure, is preferred.Familiarity with additional business intelligence platforms such as QlikView or SAP BusinessObjects.Understanding of software development principles, including experience with .NET, C#, or similar languages.Background in a service-oriented environment, ideally supporting business intelligence or data-driven decision-making.At brs, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and equitable workplace.
