Digital Control Systems Engineering Manager – GE Vernova Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Salary range: CAD 139,200 – 174,000 (annual). Eligible for performance bonus. Job Description Summary Responsible for managing and developing project technical resources to support project managers’ team during project execution. Defines, plans, and implements delivery model for SCADA, Substation Automation, Substation Networks, Integrated Energy Management Solutions engineering, and associated site services activities in close collaboration with Project Management, Protection & Control, and Packaged Solutions Engineering teams. Manages an engineering team and ensures availability of skilled resources. Head of Engineering Tasks Manage engineering team, defining strategy, set‑up & key performance indicators. Maintain high standards in project engineering, efficiency, on‑time delivery per EMH rules. Track and manage resource utilization with PMO to ensure efficiency and demand coverage. Develop Substation Automation Services offerings to contribute to GA service and solutions growth. Essential Responsibilities Deliver engineering projects on time, within budget, and with highest quality standards. Analyze and best utilize automation portfolio options (DS Agile, IEMS, G500, GPG, D20, etc.). Coach engineering team & develop individual & team skills. Work closely with tendering team to support tender estimations and post‑delivery feedback. Optimize resources and provide adequate support to customer projects. Develop and qualify external resource contractors to augment skillsets and manage peak loads. Interface with customers (internal & external) for most important projects and technical issue resolution. Ensure full use of defined Product Line engineering tools; contribute continuous improvement proposals. Define engineering & delivery model strategy for Substation Automation, IEMS, and associated site services activities. Develop & manage Installed Base data; identify opportunities with Commercial team. Support interface with central operations & engineering teams for technical priority management. Act as chief operating officer in compliance with engineering regulatory bodies (e.g., APEGA). Support Commercial team by returning experience, optimizing engineering costs & deliveries. Qualifications / Requirements Bachelor of Engineering from accredited university or college. Engineering and business knowledge, with mandatory experience in automation activities. Minimum 8 years of experience in electricity and automation engineering. Knowledge of electricity transmission, distribution, and industrial markets. Demonstrated knowledge of network communication protocols (Modbus, OPC (DA, AE, UA), DNP3, IEC61850, etc.). Knowledge of cyber asset protection regulations affecting the utilities industry (NERC CIP, NIST). Willingness to travel up to 30 %. Desired Characteristics Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science and P. Eng certification. Previous work experience in multicultural environment. Proven leadership under project structure. Excellent business acumen, execution driven, process appliance, PM metrics, teamwork. Expertise required in engineering and reporting. Capability to manage & motivate an engineering team. Autonomy & rigor. Fully fluent in English. High energy, positive individual loving operational challenges. Proactivity and reactivity.
