Department Overview Motorola Solutions Video Division is defining the future of the security industry through innovative end‑to‑end solutions. Job Description We are seeking a highly experienced and passionate Principal DevOps Engineer to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will evaluate, consolidate, and design the tools and frameworks that empower our development teams with the fastest and most reliable infrastructure. Leveraging extensive experience with AWS and other cloud platforms, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and CI/CD methodologies, you will build scalable, secure, and automated systems. The role is based in Vancouver, BC, requiring residence in the Greater Vancouver area for a hybrid office schedule. Responsibilities Design and implement scalable, resilient, and secure cloud infrastructure primarily on AWS, and potentially other providers, using best practices for high availability and disaster recovery. Identify areas for optimization, consolidation, and modernization to enhance efficiency, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness. Work with architects to develop, champion, and build a strategic roadmap for future‑state infrastructure aligned with business objectives and developer needs. Develop, maintain, and optimize IaC using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar, ensuring modularity, reusability, and version control. Implement robust CI/CD pipelines that automate delivery from code commit to production, incorporating automated testing, security scanning, and quality gates. Manage containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, EKS) to support microservices architectures. Drive automation across the infrastructure lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, deployment, monitoring, and incident response. Design and implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) to ensure system health and performance. Establish proactive alerting mechanisms and define KPIs for infrastructure and application stability. Champion a DevOps culture, promoting shared responsibility, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing. Implement security best practices throughout the lifecycle, including IAM, network security, data encryption, and vulnerability management. Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal security policies. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience. 8+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or similar role focused on cloud infrastructure. 3+ years of experience in compiled language software development (ideally C++/C#). Extensive hands‑on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, EKS/ECS, CloudWatch, etc.). Proven expertise in IaC tools, particularly Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation. Deep understanding and practical experience designing, implementing, and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines. Strong proficiency in scripting languages. Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, ECS, EKS). Solid understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and cloud architecture patterns. Excellent problem‑solving skills with a proactive, collaborative approach. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, effectively collaborating with cross‑functional teams. Bonus Points Experience building Node, C++ or .NET projects. Experience with monitoring and logging tools and a strong commitment to observability. Benefits and Salary Target Base Salary Range: 140,000 – 170,000 CAD. Pay within this range varies and depends on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The offer will be based on the individual candidate.
