MongoDB Database Consultant at Pythian Full-time, Mid‑Senior level; Remote (Canada) – supporting global engagements. Why Pythian? What You Will Be Doing Focus on project work, debugging performance degradations, audits, and health checks. Design and help implement new MongoDB and Cassandra deployments. Evaluate existing clusters and provide recommendations on best practices. Debug high‑priority issues on mission‑critical production environments. Engage with the MongoDB and Cassandra community through user lists, IRC, blog posts, webinars, and open‑source projects. Contribute to rapid brainstorming, designing, and developing prototypes. Automate and document operational procedures. Train and mentor junior team members. Provide performance and forecast reports on the health and load of critical business processes. Participate in company and team meetings. Continue education in Pythian’s Operations as a Service supported stack. Provide on‑call support in your team’s rotational schedule. What We Need From You Associate‑or‑higher degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience. Minimum five years of experience with MongoDB databases. Experience with Cassandra is an asset. Experience with other NoSQL databases (e.g., Solr, Scylla, CockroachDB) is an asset. Proficiency in at least one programming language (Shell, Python, Java, Go, C#, C++, Ruby, Ansible); Shell and Python preferred. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). Experience with web applications, distributed systems, and databases. Familiarity with orchestration and configuration‑management systems. Understanding of continuous integration and automation practices. Knowledge of monitoring, alerting, and metric collection systems. Familiarity with ITIL or similar IT service standards. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Self‑motivated, directed approach to working in a fast‑paced, demanding environment. Meticulous attention to detail, strong listening skills, and robust analytical and problem‑solving capabilities. Highly effective multitasking and organizational skills.
