Perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition for quality control, process control, or product development.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReceive orders, obtain information, and gather paperwork from Operations Supervisors on movements.Obtain and label samples; gauge shore tanks, vessels, barges, railcars, and/or tank trucks as specified per job order.Deliver samples promptly and safely to an Inspectorate laboratory for analysis, or retain or deliver to client facilities for analysis/retention.Calculate quantities and results accurately; complete required paperwork and distribute copies appropriately.Operate laboratory equipment and instruments (e.g., microscopes, centrifuge, agitators, viscosimeter, chemical balance scales, spectrophotometer, GC, colorimeter, etc.).Test, prepare or add chemicals to meet specifications.Record and write test results on standardized forms and describe procedures used; prepare graphs and charts.Ensure equipment is clean, sterilized, and in good operating condition, including safety and monitoring equipment.Report to site punctually and comply with applicable regulations, standards, and vessel/terminal requirements.Attend meetings with external personnel; represent the company professionally and ethically.Communicate problems or discrepancies to the Operations Supervisor and/or Dispatcher promptly.Maintain a 24-hour on-call status including weekends and holidays; participate in the Business Management System (BMS) and attend company meetings as required.QualificationsEducation and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED. 1-3 years’ laboratory experience using GC, HPLC, etc. Internships and research experience considered. Knowledge of HS&E procedures and related regulations.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform arithmetic operations, including basic algebra.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license required.Physical Demands: Regular standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; speaking and hearing; occasional sitting. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional up to 100 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include multiple aspects (near, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus).Work EnvironmentWork may be performed at heights or in outdoor conditions; may involve exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and electrical hazards. Possible exposure to restricted spaces and radiation risk. Safety training is provided.
