This position works in the Property Use Coordination organizational unit. It involves community relations and regulatory field administrative work, including achieving public compliance with property use, building, and licensing bylaws, as well as mediating related civil issues.The role includes investigating and resolving property misuse complaints, mediating neighborhood disputes and licensing complaints, interpreting and advising on property use, licensing, noise or sound abatement, and other bylaws. Responsibilities also encompass inspecting businesses for proper licensing, analyzing and recommending property tax exemptions, inspecting buildings, dwelling units, and construction sites for violations, and taking remedial or legal action as needed.Additional duties involve preparing reports and correspondence for presentation to Council, reviewing Council reports, and recommending actions relevant to the department's activities. The work requires tact, diplomacy, independence, and judgment, especially in dispute mediation and misuse investigations. Other tasks may be assigned as required.Qualifications include post-secondary education, preferably university degree, with courses in communications, public relations, and building regulations, along with significant related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of bylaws, Acts, and regulations is essential, as is the ability to interpret and explain them, read site plans and drawings, recognize infractions, investigate illegal occupancies, prepare reports, research information, establish effective relationships, gather evidence for prosecution, act as a court witness, and provide advice on bylaws and regulations. A valid Driver’s Licence for British Columbia is required.Note: Class Specification is under review.The closing date has been extended, and the position remains open until filled.
