Director / Senior Director of R&D

I am partnered with a leading radiopharmaceutical company who are seeking an accomplished Director or Senior Director of Research & Development to lead its growing R&D organization. You will oversee a team responsible for advancing multiple radiopharma programs through development, technical transfer, and launch readiness.Key Responsibilities:Lead a team of 25 scientists and managers across R&D and product development functions.Oversee radiopharmaceutical development from concept through tech transfer to manufacturing partners.Drive process chemistry optimization, formulation design, and troubleshooting activities.Manage multiple imaging programs — from early development through product launch.Support tech transfers to external manufacturing partners (primarily overseas CMOs) by providing technical guidance and oversight.Ensure documentation, regulatory compliance, and internal quality standards are met.Mentor and empower direct reports; foster a culture of accountability and collaboration rather than micromanagement.Partner cross-functionally with Quality, Regulatory, and BD teams to align technical deliverables with business objectives.Qualifications:PhD in Chemistry or Radiochemistry (required).10+ years of relevant leadership experience, including at least 3–5 years in radiopharmaceutical or radiochemistry development.Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams and manage multiple concurrent programs.Strong understanding of process chemistry, optimization, and scale-up for radiopharma or imaging compounds.Experience with kit design and radiolabeling chemistry (e.g., Gallium, Technetium) is advantageous.Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills with a collaborative management style.Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on problem-solving.
