The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high-quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards, and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation, and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works, and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector and promotes the development and increased use of energy-efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.
The Manager, Operations, Safety and Security is located in Yellowknife and reports to the Director, Air, Marine and Safety. The Air, Marine and Safety Division provides leadership and management of specialized services to support the operation of the 27 GNWT airports on a 24/7 basis, in both routine circumstances and emergency response situations. Contracted operators operate 19 airports, and Departmental staff operate 2 community airports and the 6 larger ones. The manager and staff interact with sites and with professionals across the Department, the Government, and many federal agencies, in order to carry out their responsibilities. Under the leadership of the Director, Air, Marine and Safety, the Manager leads the development of GNWT policies, programs, standards, and procedures to implement an ongoing oversight and administration of the federally mandated Safety Management System (SMS).
QualificationsTypically attained by:
- The completion of a post-secondary diploma preferably in a field related to airport planning, operations, and management. This could include successful completion of certifications such as an air traffic services program; with four (4) years of experience in airport operations and two (2) years of management experience; or
- The completion of specialized airport training in the development of critical qualifications in Safety Management, Auditing, Investigation, Wildlife Management, and Emergency Preparedness.
The incumbent should also have six (6) years of experience in airport operations and four (4) years of management experience. Supervisory, staff development, and training experience is also highly desired. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
